In December, we were proud to reach practical completion of the ECU City Campus, a significant milestone for the University, the City of Perth, and our collaborators.

Designed as a bold vertical campus, ECU City embodies the University’s vision for a vibrant collision between business, technology, and creativity. The campus puts learning, making and performance on show, opening student life to the city and contributing a distinctive piece of contemporary architecture to the CBD. Bringing together Business and Law, Arts, and Humanities, WAAPA and WASA, the campus is compact and interconnected, driving interdisciplinary collaboration. A network of laneways, atria and stairs creates a porous, city-like campus that is easy to navigate and rich in social interaction.

Environmentally responsive facades combine performance with creative expression, transforming into a large-scale media canvas at night. At ground level, an activated foyer facing Yagan Square welcomes the city in; making ECU City a campus that truly reaches out to Perth. The new campus will be welcoming students and staff in February!

ECU City Campus is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

The University of Newcastle’s new Central Coast Campus in Gosford has set a new benchmark for sustainable education design, targeting a 6 Star Green Star rating and showcasing the power of mass timber from both a performance and aesthetic point of view.

Huge thanks to @carboncommon for capturing these latest videos on site. From the curved facade by @lyonsarchitecture to the precision of the engineered timber by @rubnertimberengineering, it’s a great example of what’s possible when strong design vision meets sustainable construction.

Mass timber plays a huge role here, delivering warmth, acoustic performance and reduced embodied carbon throughout the building.

We’ve loved watching this project come together and can’t wait to share even more from site very soon.

The University of Newcastle’s new Central Coast Campus in Gosford is now on the final stretch, and it’s looking incredible.

This project has been one to watch from the start, setting a new benchmark for sustainable education design in Australia. Targeting a 6-Star Green Star rating, the building blends innovation, warmth and performance through its extensive use of mass timber.

Our friends at @carboncommon captured some stunning new shots on site, showing just how far the project has come. From the striking curved façade by @lyonsarchitecture to the precision of @rubnertimberengineering's engineered timber, it’s a showcase of what can happen when design vision meets sustainable construction.

Mass timber plays a key role in both the environmental performance and visual impact of this project, offering warmth, acoustic benefits and reduced embodied carbon; while showcasing what’s possible in timber projects.

It has been amazing to see everything come together on this landmark project, and we can’t wait to share more shots and a full video next week from this stunning project.

The new Wyndham Law Courts has been officially opened – delivering safe and accessible justice services for the communities of Melbourne’s west. Lyons were excited to be part of the project, and to help in delivering a benchmark project focused on community centred justice. It also sets a benchmark for the design of a multi-jurisdictional facility, accommodating the needs of the Magistrates Court, Childrens Court and VCAT, including shared spaces.

Lyons worked closely with Court Services Victoria, and many other stakeholders, to create an innovative and distinctive court ‘user experience’ (often a highly stressful one) that includes clear and accessible arrival points, a central light filled atrium for orientation, and intuitive wayfinding to all Court Rooms and hearing rooms. The distinctive spatial layout of the building connects all public areas directly to the surrounding landscapes of Bunurong Country in order to maximize calming connections to nature, including secure ‘winter gardens’ adjacent to the courts.Even the courtrooms themselves are designed to be full of natural light and views, with warm and textured natural materials. The civic building form, a catalyst for the future East Werribee Town Centre, responds to its surrounding landscapes, referencing the red cliffs and soil of the Werribee River thereby embedding it into a distinctive sense of place.

The overall result is a major new Court that is designed to serve and reflect its community and to create a local identity from which the community can take long term pride.

Congratulations to Lyons for their project Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre which has received a Commendation for Public Architecture at the National Architecture Awards.

Jury citation:

“With the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre, Lyons has navigated the notoriously difficult St Kilda Road urban condition and achieved a highly successful formal resolution, working with Rush Wright Associates to deliver a spectacularly biodiverse, welcoming and serene entry forecourt, with exterior patient wellbeing and retreat spaces.
The hardworking floorplate traverses elaborate geometries and adapts with agility to a complex healthcare, wellbeing and research program. Moments of delight are carved through the form, connecting communities and injecting light to transform and uplift. Treatment spaces are cleverly designed to conceal clinical elements and feel more like a high-quality spa experience.”

Prahran Square is an award-winning civic transformation. Once an at-grade car park, the site was reimagined into 10,000 square metres of multi-functional public realm, providing flexible urban parkland while meeting local parking demand. Car spaces were relocated underground, freeing the ground plane for the public. Raised edges allow natural light and passive surveillance, framing a pedestrian-focused landscape.

Distinct themed zones were arranged around a central civic square, connecting diagonally to surrounding landmarks, Chapel Street, Greville Street and the Prahran Market, ensuring the space is permeable and intuitive. Integrated public art reinforces cultural identity and assists with improved wayfinding.

Prahran Square exemplifies collaborative design; shaped through extensive community engagement and delivered with ASPECT Studios, it provides inclusive spaces for both quiet reflection and large-scale events. It has become an enduring civic asset that embodies design innovation, resilience, and community pride.

The Springvale Library and Community Hub was designed as a benchmark in civic architecture, delivering a multi-purpose facility combining a library and flexible civic spaces, all set within a playful and inclusive community parkland. The award-winning design mirrors Springvale’s identity as one of Australia’s most culturally diverse communities. Each building façade responds to a distinct aspect of Springvale, from the rippling western façade of rainbow-glazed bricks referencing migrant flags, to the northern façade curving around heritage River Red Gums. The hub integrates cultural storytelling, community services, and placemaking to foster civic pride and ownership.

We worked closely with the Greater Dandenong City Council and the community itself to produce this multifaceted, world-class, zero-emissions community facility. The result is a coalescence of cultures forming a diverse public space that encourages education, interaction and connection. Co-design and staged engagement focused the brief on intuitive wayfinding, shaded outdoor rooms and flexible, bookable spaces used by many groups.

The Brimbank City Council Community and Civic Centre was a transformational project, revitalising Sunshine’s Main Street and uniting Council and community services under one roof. The six-level, 12,000m² facility incorporate a library, council chambers, customer service centre, community meeting rooms, exhibition and function spaces, staff workplaces, and support areas.

The project seamlessly integrates urban design and architecture, with the design creating a civic forecourt, expanded pedestrian spaces and end-of-trip facilities, encouraging sustainable transport. The ground floor was conceived as a series of interconnected public rooms, ensuring the library, exhibition space, and customer service areas flowed into the surrounding public realm. Central to the project was community connection, with the facade and interiors designed to reflect Sunshine’s history, while flexible and adaptable spaces enable interaction and inclusivity. The outcome is a vibrant, community-focused facility that redefines civic life in Sunshine.

Instagram Stories geheim ansehen
