Meet Matt, 24, from Leeds. A former competitive swimmer who works in events… and now he’s a lifesaver too!

“I signed up when DKMS came to my uni, they said young men often make the best stem cell donors but are the least likely to join - so I thought it was important,” he explains.

Matt signed up, forgot all about it… then years later got the call 📞
Turns out, he was someone’s only match.

“I was relieved to hear that most people are able to donate through their blood, so it was going to be a relatively easy procedure. I was just so glad I could help.” (9 out of 10 donations look similar to giving blood platelets, btw)

Three mouth swabs ➡️ one donation day ➡️ a second chance at life!

Only 7% of eligible people in the UK are on the register and Matt wants to help change that…

“I’ve been telling as many people as I can, because more people should know how important it is - and how easy it is. It’s especially important for guys my age to sign up. I’d 100% do it again.”

If you’re 17–55 and in good health, you could be someone’s match.
Matt was and so could you.

Being a stem cell donor? That’s some serious main character energy...

“Just get out and do it – it takes nothing. Everything is organised for you (and I’m not the most organised person 😅). It’s such a great opportunity… why wouldn’t you, if you could save a life?” – Tiernan, stem cell donor

Tiernan, 20, from Omagh, recently gave a few hours to potentially save someone’s life...

He first joined the stem cell register back in 2022 after hearing about it in a school assembly. With his uncle having had kidney cancer, it hit close to home: “I took it as a sign to sign up.”

“A few years later I got the call from DKMS saying I was a match – I’d actually forgotten I registered! But I thought it was amazing… so did my family and friends.”

From there, everything was taken care of:
“All travel was paid for, the hotel was lovely. I was a bit nervous but mostly just excited.”

And the donation itself?
“It only took about 2 and a half hours – even the nurses were surprised, they were like ‘are you done already?’”

But what stayed with him most was the impact afterwards:
“People at work kept coming up to me saying how amazing it was and that I’d inspired them. I told them its actually straightforward to sign up and register.”

And when he learned more about the patient, it really hit home:
“They’re the same age as my mum… they could have a family, kids. That made it real.”

“Overall, it was just a great experience.”

👉 Join the stem cell register. It could be YOU saving a life next.

Unbox To Save A Life!

This PR package from the @dkms_uk is like no other… it gives the opportunity to save lives! Here I filmed a step by step process showing YOU how easy it is do the stem cell swabs. Collectively, the process takes no more than 10 minutes from signing up, to sending the swabs back!

Are you aged 16-55 and in good health!? Sign up NOW, and you could give someone the second chance at life they deserve 🙏

Spreading awareness and educating people on blood cancer is something I will always do. With only 7% of the UK’s population is registered as potential donors (and only 16% of these are from minority ethnic communities), it’s important we continue to support this incredible charity and cause.

Three cheek swabs. A lifesaving difference.

Meet Jasmin - one of the faces of our Do the Swab campaign.

She shares:
“I already donate blood in my spare time, so I feel like registering as a stem cell donor is in a similar ballpark…

“I just think it's a great, fulfilling way to give back to people in your community and people in need. I would definitely love to give stem cells if I were called as a match for someone.”

Stick it in. Save a life.
