Last night marked the opening of The Archetypes exhibition, a collection of eight portraits of AUB students in their making spaces in a collaboration between the Brand, Marketing and Future Students team and third-year BA (Hons) Commercial Photography student Ruth Virgo @ruthvirgophoto, following inspiration from Ruth’s own ‘Making Spaces’ project.

These portraits were part of a paid commission and have been used in the new AUB prospectus. Shot on medium format film and usually seen at A7 size, this exhibition celebrates Ruth’s photographs with blown-up prints.

Those A7 cards make up our latest reinvention of the traditional university prospectus, creating a card-based system attached to a custom green and pink carabiner so you can pick and choose what’s relevant to you. Ruth’s portraits make up the core eight cards of the prospectus, depicting the various creative identities of our students to help inspire a future generation of artists, makers, strategists, world builders, performers, storytellers, visionaries and icons.

The prospectus was the brainchild of BA (Hons) Graphic Design alumna Emma McEvoy @emmamc12 , working with BA (Hons) Photography alumnus Harry Davenport @harrywithafour who led on the shoots and curated the exhibition.

Thanks to the photography technicians @aubphototechs for printing the portraits in house and to anatol Just from the Innovation Studio @aubinnovation for 3D printing the ‘MiniPeg’ system used to display the cards alongside the artwork. Thanks also to Violet McClean and @djrnandez from @thegallery_aub for their support in the creation of this exhibition.

See The Archetypes for yourself in The Gallery on campus until 20 June.

Introducing our new prospectus 🔖

As creative people, we see the world differently. We learn differently, too. This is why our prospectus isn’t what you’d usually expect. In our new deck of cards, connected by a custom AUB carabiner, you can discover the best bits of university life, including our courses, students, location and community.

At the heart of these cards are eight portraits of our students on campus in their making spaces, all taken by BA (Hons) Commercial Photography student Ruth Virgo on medium format film.

Each one represents a creative identity, so whether you’re a maker, strategist or world builder, you can explore what kind of creative are or want to become.

The tension between restriction and freedom takes center stage in this graduate collection from Katie Bilton and Molly Harman. Developed at Arts University Bournemouth, the work navigates the complexities of modern womanhood through a deliberate contrast of structure and fluidity. By pairing corsetry-inspired elements with softer, liberated silhouettes, the designers examine how strength and vulnerability coexist within the feminine form. This narrative of control and release is further articulated through thoughtful construction, where tailored forms are disrupted by transparency and layered detailing. It is a visual dialogue on autonomy and identity, tracing the evolution of garments as they shift from containment into expressions of movement and open dynamism.
