Just a bit over two weeks left. 📷

Breaking Sound, the photography exhibition by Rhandy Adolphe (SAMBAranthony), part of the @contactphoto Festival, is still up at @highnotesco , 2057 Dundas Street West.

To everyone who's stopped by so far, thank you. It's been a joy talking through the work and the process with you.

The exhibition wraps up with a closing event on Saturday, May 30th, more details on that coming soon. And yes, there's a giveaway happening. Check the link in the bio for details.

If you haven't made it out yet, now's the time.

This week! Thursday, May 14 @contxtbytrane: Afro Brasilica is excited to welcome Victor Monsivais to the stage, a musician whose understanding and passion for Bossa Nova, Brazilian Samba, Latin Jazz and beyond is something best experienced in person.

🗓️ Thursday, May 14
📍 254 Lansdowne Ave (upstairs)
🕖 7 pm doors, 8-11 pm music

For nearly 40 years, Victor has been composing, arranging and performing across genres with a rare authenticity. Over the past decade he’s become a fixture at some of the GTA’s most beloved rooms - The Rex Hotel, Reservoir Lounge, The Gladstone and Lula Lounge.

His repertoire pulls from the greatest Brazilian composers, Jobim, Newton Mendoça, Ary Barroso, Dorival Caymmi and Ze Ketti, sung in their original Portuguese. His Latin and Jazz sets carry the same spirit: Buena Vista Social Club, Santana and Ellington, played the way they were meant to sound.

Fun fact! Victor is also a trained architect, and it shows. There’s a structure and intentionality to the way he moves through music that makes every set feel like something designed, not just played.

If you haven’t caught him live yet, Thursday is a good night to change that.

Join us this Saturday (May 2nd) at @highnotesco to celebrate the launch of Breaking Sound - an exhibition by Rhandy Adolphe (SAMBAranthony) - part of CONTACT Photography Festival.

From 12PM until close, step into a space where photography and sound move together.
An exhibition you can walk through with an amazing lineup of performances you’ll feel in your chest.

All are welcome.
Details in the bio.

Breaking Sound is a month-long exhibition by Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist Rhandy Adolphe (SAMBAranthony).

Through a body of work that fuses sound and sight through movement, the exhibition translates photography into visual sound waves captured through dance and DJ’ing. The installation explores vibration as a shared language; one capable of bending perception and dissolving boundaries between what we hear and what we see.

At its core, Breaking Sound reflects on the idea that all sensation originates from the same material force: vibration itself. Visitors are invited to move through the space at their own pace, whether in stillness or in motion, and to return throughout the month to experience the work from new perspectives.

We’ll be raffling off an exclusive print from the exhibition, with the winner announced at the end of May. So come through early, come back often, and give yourself a few chances to take a piece of it home!

DJs and Performances:

DJ Ron Jon (@djronjon) | 12:00pm - 1:30pm
Soul, Funk and House

The MAZZz (@mazzucadpi ) | 1:30pm - 3:00pm
Disco, New Wave, Electronic and specializes in the genre of “HSIHNHTIA” (holy shit I have not heard that in ages)

Dimitry (@handdrawndmitry ) | 3:00pm - 4:30pm
psych, rock, r&b, folk, instrumental, new wave, disco, electronic, & jazz)

olasconola (@olasconola ) | 4:30pm - 6:00pm
Sound Travels : A sonic journey around the world. Baila!

K2 (@sonomadic_music ) | 6:00pm - 6:45pm
Free jazz improvisation

Jeff Paris (@jparis1976 ) | 6:45pm - 8:15pm
Vinyl-only former rave DJ. Detroit techno snob. Deep crates, zero compromises.

That Dude From Lupinore (@lupinore ) | 8:15pm - 9:00pm
Zouk, Kompa, Funk, Soul, House

Anonstories oferuje doskonałe rozwiązanie do ukrywania swojej tożsamości.
