“Loving your BODY changes everything” 💜
Last night at the 27th Annual @thewebbyawards I was asked to deliver my 5 word speech on stage along side @sza @andersoncooper @traceeellisross @underthedesknews @hodakotb @unnecessaryinventions @tikatheiggy @wittelstephanie @thelionking and more. (Pinch me!)

Growing up in a society where thin was in, I was taught to hate my body. I have always known that I wanted to work in live theatre but never saw bodies that looked like mine on stage. In theatre school I was taught that losing weight was the only way to succeed in this business.
They were right.

In 2023, “weekly weigh-in” is standard practice on cruise ships.
In 2023, “body type” is listed in character descriptions and @cdnactorsequity posts it on their job board. When asked to address the size discrimination, they dismiss the concern because it has not “violated any terms of our collective agreement”
In 2023, of the two top agencies that rep musical theatre performers in Toronto, fat clients make up 0.04% and 0.07% of their rosters, respectively.

Learning to love my body saved my life.
Helping other people learn to love their bodies has changed my life.

What a special experience it was to be included in this ❤️

Tiny Dancer is an inspirational story about a dancer, who receives a misguided gift from her mother, and triggering an episode with her ed. Through her internal spiral, she has a surreal encounter with her child like self, helping kick start her healing journey to self love, forgiveness and coming home to herself.
