Addi Road Turns 50 🎉

This year, Addi Road Community Organisation celebrates 50 years of community, activism, creativity and care in the heart of the Inner West.

Since 1976, Addi Road has been more than a place, it has been a movement. A space where people gather, organise, celebrate culture, share food, stand up for justice, and show up for one another.

From grassroots activism to food justice programs, from migrant support to arts and culture, from youth training to community markets, Addi Road has always been powered by people. Volunteers. Staff. Neighbours. Donors. Organisers. Community members.

Through economic downturns, political shifts, and a global pandemic, Addi Road has remained what it has always been: a connector. A safety net. A meeting ground. A place where solidarity is practical and community is action.

Fifty years on, the mission remains the same: fairness, dignity, and opportunity for all.

To everyone who has walked through the gates, packed a hamper, planted a seedling, attended a rally, hosted an event, donated, learned, laughed, or simply found belonging here, this milestone belongs to you.

Here’s to the next 50 years of courage, compassion and community.

Stay tuned for a series of special events, community gatherings, storytelling moments, and celebrations that honour the people, movements and memories that have shaped Addi Road over the past five decades.

There’ll be chances to reconnect, reflect, celebrate and help shape what the next 50 years look like.

Watch this space. You won’t want to miss it.

Did you know Addi Sounds has a Youth Poetry Club? ✍🏾🎤

Every fortnight on Wednesday nights from 6:00pm–7:30pm, Addi Words flows into the Addi Sounds Studio. A space where your creativity is heard, held, safe, and inspired. A portal of community, expression, and imagination✨️

Hosted by @cocoatheconscious and @ratajabdullahh , who help bring the poetry experience to life, Addi Words is a chance to connect, create, and share.

This reel captures highlights from our Youth Poetry Open Mic Night held earlier this year in the Stir Up Gallery; a wholesome evening filled with poetry, community, and creativity, set against the incredible backdrop of the visual masterpieces by @sahara.d_aart and @emmanuel.asante.art It was a night where two artistic modalities came together, weaving poetry and visual art into a whole new experience.✨️

Keep an eye out for our next Open Mic Night, coming soon! 👀

Until then, we’ll see you at Addi Words next Wednesday, 27th May. Grab some hot food from our iconic Wednesday Night Lights, then head over to the Addi Sounds Studio and step into the creative portal. 🌌💜

❎ READ TO ME | Live Visual Storytelling and the Australian Comics Landscape
🏟️ inside the Greek Theatre at 4pm this Saturday 16 May at Addi Road Writers’ Festival 2026
★ All-day tickets for Addi Road Writers’ Festival are available on the Humanitix link here: https://events.humanitix.com/addi-road-writers-festival-2026

Discover the growing Australian comics scene through the work of four Sydney based cartoonists. These stories, diving into family dynamics, complicated love, climate change and the natural world, are told live by the author and accompanied by projected imagery. After the story presentations, cartoonists discuss some of the unique storytelling techniques and literary merits of the medium, and the changing comics landscape.

Whether you are already an avid comics reader, new to the medium, or a prose-only snob that thinks comics are just for kids and images are only for book covers… this event is for you.

Read to Me is a live visual storytelling event that provides a platform for cartoonists, graphic novelists and other kinds of artists and creatives to share their stories and investigate performative aspects of their work. The combination of live storytelling with the storytellers’ own art and images is immersive and captivating in a totally unique way, layered with pathos and humour that emerges in the mingling of voice and image.

🏟️Fionn McCabe artist, printmaker, award-winning cartoonist and comics educator
🏟️Evie Hilliar animator, cartoonist and jack-of-all-trades artist
🏟️Gabe Clark visual communication design practitioner and academic

Every year, Mirvac’s National Community Day sees hundreds of team members swap their desks and worksites for a day of giving back to charities and community organisations across Australia ❤️

The amazing team at Mirvac have been long-term supporters of Addi Road, and for the past 5 years they’ve spent their biggest volunteering day of the year with us.

This morning, 50 volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into some huge projects around our Marrickville site.

Together they:
🌱 Planted 75 trees as part of our @landcareaustralia Healthy Cities project
🎨 Painted Hut 1, home to our offices and Food Pantry
📦 Packed 477 hampers to go out for free to community
🍲 Cooked 100 meals for our Camperdown Food Pantry
🌭 Hosted a free community BBQ to top it all off

A massive thank you to the Mirvac team for showing up with such generosity, energy and community spirit. We’re so grateful to have you as part of the Addi Road family!

🖼 Kit Kelen's 'my first forest of words' opens this week at the Stirrup Gallery in association with Addi Road Writers' Festival 2026. The official launch comes at the festival at 12 midday this Saturday 16 May. But you can come along at your leisure and look at all of Kit's artworks every day this week from 10am till 4pm each day.
🖼 Kit Kelen’s 'my first forest of words' is an immersive installation experiment in encounters between image and text. The work on the wall in this exhibition consists of (sometimes epigrammatic) handscripted fragments of poems, balanced against abstract calligraphic works.
🖼 These works on paper are all about crossing and blurring lines between text and image, between what is intelligible as script in one language or another, and what might be prototypical of writing.
🖼The reader/viewer/listener of this exhibition is led along from known words to semblances of words, to symbols, into scrawl that can never quite be meaningless. Along with the paper work on the wall are a slideshow, and soundscapes, these also distracting and de/familiarizing the viewer/listener’s expectations of presence to image and text.
🖼 The intention is aphoristic and the experience for anyone attempting to pay attention is that of being lost in a territory of strange lines and signs, or, conversely of coming on a journey from a forest of scribble into meaning/s that can be recognized and understood. In either case, a participant in the work is tasked with finding their own way, and, in fact making their own poem and meaning, randomly/whimsically, just as the eye is carried....

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
