The first time I visited this place, I fell in love: not only because it’s incredibly beautiful, but because it feels like something out of another world: an island with a ruined lighthouse, lost in the middle of nowhere.
This place tells a story. This land has witnessed ships, battles, and people arriving from all over the world. Whenever I’m here, I try to imagine what it must have been like back then and I find it endlessly fascinating.
The island is made of coral, and you can clearly see it as you walk across it. Just imagine… you’re walking on a giant coral formation. It also offers an incredible view of the nearby islets, including Vacoas and Île de la Passe, which rest along the coral reef. You can easily spot it when looking toward the land, the waves break directly on the reef.
The lighthouse was built in 1865, during the British colonial period, and stands about 26 meters tall. It once guided boats heading toward Mahébourg.
🏝️It’s definitely a place to visit: still one of my absolute favorites!!!
