Residency update with @tonals.corner !

"Over the course of six sessions, I worked with high school juniors and seniors at @ihscahighschool in a Painting II class to create still life scenes with personal artifacts.

Working with high school students was interesting because they weren’t talkative yet their craft as painters was well developed.

We set up mini backdrops to compose their items to photograph, and then used that image as a reference for painting their still life, which was later displayed in a group exhibition at Pilsen Arts and Community House.

The first year of my residency has been layered because, well, I am not a painter, but a photographer. Yet I do view these mediums as mirrors to each other. It was cool to witness the process of having students think just as critically about their composition, lighting, and image as they did translating them into their painting. On the other end, it resurfaced feelings I am in constant flux of resolving around the loss of my brother when we were kids, as well as the estrangement that often accompanies growing up in an abusive and neglectful household. This is reflected in the titles of the pieces, "One Big Happy Family" and "Family Portraits."

This Thursday, I’m honored to share my work on @artonthemart again ✨ Come join us!!!

As part of the collaboration between Chicago Public Schools All-City Visual Arts @cps_arts, ART on THE MART @artonthemart, and Artist in Public Schools @aipschicago, selected CPS student digital artworks—along with my work—will be projected onto the MART.

As an @aipschicago resident artist, I’ve also been involved in curation, editing, and technical support for this collaboration, helping bring these student works to life on a larger scale.

————————————

⟣ Traces of Passing ⟢
Sound by @mauriciolopezfernandez

Anxiety. Speed. Constant change.
The tension of living in a fast-moving, ever-shifting world.

Is the hometown that lives in our dreams still there?
What happened today to the people we quietly passed by?

This work is an invitation to pause within the restless rhythm of Chicago. To notice what we carry, what we are losing, and the lives moving quietly beside our own.

Opening Reception:
📍 May 21, 7:30PM
Chicago Riverwalk - The Jetty, between Wells and Franklin Street

If you can’t make it that night, projections continue Thursday–Sunday at 8:30 PM through May 31.

The evening will feature two projection programs, beginning with a work led by the Museum of Contemporary Photography @mocpchi and artist Colleen Plumb @plumb.colleen, followed by the CPS student projections and my work.

Many thanks to @aipschicago. I’m deeply grateful to be a resident artist in this program and to be part of this collaboration. Looking forward to sharing this night with students, collaborators, and community 💛

This month, we had the pleasure of visiting EXPO Chicago (@expochicago) with Michele Clark High School (@mclarkeagles) and our Executive Director, Joe Freshgoods (@joefreshgoods).

During our visit, students connected with resident artists, Jonathan Michael Castillo (@joncastillophoto) and Deirdre Colgan Jones (@deirdrecolganjones), from Artists in Public Schools (@aipschicago).

Students had the opportunity to learn about their work, explore their residency projects, and get to know the artists behind the work.

Thank you to our friends, Artists in Public Schools, for having us and showing our students what is possible.

We truly admire the work you’re doing in making art experiences accessible for students and artists alike!

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us at EXPO CHICAGO#2026 and experienced the work of our one-of-a-kind artists @juanbanosstudio and @joncastillophoto ! We are so grateful to every visitor (and their pups 🐶) who came to explore our booth, our installation in the lobby of Navy Pier, and listened in on our Dialogues talk with @suzettebross , norm_design22b , @doriansylvain, and Mariam Thiam, in collaboration with the @obama_presidential_center . And especially to our partner schools, @lphschicago , West Park STEAM Academy, @bjcaeagles1 , @multicultural.arts.hs whose students made so many contributions to the artwork we exhibited and were invited to celebrate with us at EXPO. Special shout out to our friends at @mclarkeagles @emmy330, @community_goods and @ladies_who_lit for taking the time to connect with our artists. It is always such a joy to bring Chicago Public Schools and local artists to the stage of such an impactful international art fair. Until next time!

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories.
