Iikka Vehkalahti was a champion of documentary films, a ferocious supporter of us filmmakers. He produced Nero’s Guests, and along with P.Sainath, he supported, mentored and made sure I reached the finish line, strong.
He was incisive, yet compassionate with his comments.
He knew when to push, he knew when to relent.
He was everything you needed when making a documentary, a lengthy, lonely and difficult process that got easier because you had Iikka by your side.
So kind of Anoop and Savia to host the evening, and so generous of Katri and Henriikka to share the moment with us.
Anjali Monteiro, Jayashankar, Nishtha Jain, Rahul Jain, Vinay Shukla, P.Sainath, Sonya Gill and so many more who share my love and respect for Iikka.
We will really miss you.

Back from Goa attending the Waves Bazaar. Always wonderful meeting colleagues, producers and friends, watching films, pitching, listening.
But what stayed with me are those in the periphery…in the fringes of this big club called the industry.
A young filmmaker waiting to catch the French producer’s eye, the senior gentleman pitching his Goan post-production studio, an actor trying to catch a filmmaker’s attention
Dreams live in these margins…till one great film, one great performance... changes the course of life and suddenly you are in the middle of the club.
I sat at the sidelines for one afternoon and watched so many of these faces and sent a prayer that they all make their movies. Magic wishes in the air:)
