What started as a normal vacation day in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, has escalated into an CARTEL v. ARMY war. Woke up to black smoke and large fires seen from our balcony, followed by gunfire and explosions. Chaos in the streets here, and surrounding areas, following the killing of ‘EL MENCHO,’ leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Waiting for the violence to subside, and hoping everyone here is staying safe, like us.

Years ago I found a striking photo of my grandfather, (Papa Sydney), from his first visit to the State of Israel around 75 years ago. Although I had no idea where exactly this photograph was taken, the image always remained in my mind and inspired me to learn more about my family’s history and the history of our people. Today, with the help of my good friend @bauertrails, and his investigation into the photo, I was able to stand in the footsteps of my Papa, in the ruins of this 1,800 year old synagogue. On October 7, 2023, Binyamin Teshager Taka was killed in Kissufim, while saving his friend’s life. Benny is remembered as an amazing young man with a big heart and a great sense of humour. Everyone loved him.

Husband and wife, Nir and Noa Baranes, were murdered on July 9, 2024, when a Hezbollah missile struck their car. Parents of three, they were cherished members of the community and loved by so many. Noa was the local chocolatier, and Nir managed the poultry farming in their kibbutz.

Here, their daughter, Shira, shares their story at the OneFamily Memorial Chapel at Camp Timberlane.

Two years ago today, on January 15, 2024, Nitzan Schessler fell in the line of duty, fighting Hamas terrorists in Khan Yunis. 21 years old, Nitzan was loved by all. From a young age he displayed a keen mind, a passion for travel, and an eclectic love of music. He played soccer competitively, but set aside professional aspirations to serve his country.Nitzan’s warmth, optimism, and zest for life left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
