Observing the moon’s phases from a single vantage point over a month traces a shape that can abstractly resemble the letter N. This movement is a visual poem where the moon shifts, hides, and sometimes is obscured by clouds. In the vast sky of life, this remains a metaphorical reminder of constant alteration. Resistance is the constant negotiation between what is and what could be. Just as the moon maintains its orbit while it may be hidden, resistance is the act of holding a vision when the path forward is obscured.

Join us on December 11th and 12th for our next Chaos Cradle event titled ‘Mist’, an evening exhibition by artist-curator Foad Alijani. Within this film installation, Foad explores how perception shapes our understanding of memory by revisiting his eye surgery memories, and connects these insights to the different modes of sensing of aquatic life.

🪼 About the installation:
Memory is a window through which we observe fleeting moments like fragile drifting clouds. The window is not a division; it is a perceptual apparatus. Through it, feeling pours in, washed with light or deepened by shadow. Each glance into the glass reveals a path worn by time, where the heart might pause, uncertain whether to linger in the glow or vanish into the dark. Memory is both a port and a bridge, holding the weight of the past and the weightlessness of what we have yet to understand. While a window opens passage and perspective for observation, it is in the focused act of perception that memory becomes the lens through which we apprehend the world. In this sense, the realm of perception could be seen as the eye’s contraption, where memory performs as its lens.

Chaos Cradle is .zip’s program series and testing site for artistic research, experimental presentations and other works-in-progress. The program includes events of all kind – from screenings and panel talks to exhibitions and performances – to offer an intimate and informal space for sharing feedback, finding community and exploring new collaborations.
