something about dancing: I love the twirl, I love the way fingertips meet, how the arms open and curve in around some invisible object. I like to place my hands gently on the ground. I like to lengthen my spine. To move it like a snake, to move it like a horse. I like the stability of all fours and dropping one shoulder then bending at the elbow. I like to feel the breath in the belly, in the blood, in the bones, to feel the feet spread on the ground. But the hands! Oh I love the hands. The gesture is loaded, I love the gesture. I want to jump. Petit allegro is of course intoxicating, to feel both strong and giddy! Sometimes dancing is like a vomit, sometimes it’s like a song. John said a poem often longs to be a song, I think my dance longs to be a poem.

Brigid is a dance and sound performance inspired by the pre-Christian goddess Brigid, linked to the origins of the Bean Sí (Banshee) myth and her caoineadh (keening). Radiant goddess of fire and wellsprings, Brigid kindles creativity, heals the wounded, and guards the thresholds between life and death.

Brigid unfolds through immersion and suspension. Interlaced with sonic and visual patterns, Alice Heyward and Oisín Monaghan / Oisín Ó Manacháin’s choreography reckons with the entanglement of grief and fear, stirring otherworldly encounters by incorporating and inventing Sean Nós (old-style) rituals.
