かしこまって言うことでもないが、いま、我々は救いようのない混乱のなかにいる。雷鳴轟く闇夜に放り出され、立っていることさえ困難な船に乗っている気分だ。何をよすがとすればいい？ いまも音楽は灯台の役割を担うことができるのだろうか。危険な場所を指し示し、時代における道標（みちしるべ）たり得るだろうか。
およそ半世紀前、「パンキー・レゲエ・パーティ」が英国で暮らす白人の若者たちの耳と精神を拡張したことは周知の通りだ。そのきっかけを作ったのがロンドンのドン・レッツというDJであったことも、歴史の教科書を引くまでもなく明らかだ。パンクとレゲエの合流によって促された精神的な連帯は、人種差別や人びとを抑圧するシステムに立ち向かった。そうして、かつてない文化の扉が開いた。ベースが響き、言葉が舞う。ブリストルではダディ・GというDJがその後に続いた。「ワイルド・バンチ」が誕生し、それはやがてダブの重低音を纏った漆黒のグループ、マッシヴ・アタックへと展開する。
ドン・レッツとダディ・Gがやって来る。2026年は、ちょうどパンク誕生50周年にあたるわけだが、いまなおドン・レッツが第一線で活躍していることは驚異である。50年前、パンクにレゲエを教えたこのDJは、自ら開けた扉から広がるフロア上で、そのプレイリストを更新し続けている。ヒップホップからジャングル、ダブ、インディ・ロック、ダンスホール……腹の底に響く低周波の音……。しかし重要なのはジャンルではない。その音楽が人びとにとってどんな意味があるか、だ。必要とされている夢か、あるいは特効薬か。リズムという底流のなかに出口を見つけるかもしれない。ドン・レッツとダディ・Gは、いまも音楽が前向きなパワーを持っていることを熟知している、その筋の達人たちである。同士たちよ、フロアで会おう。
