Last week's reading at @typewronger, in Edinburgh. Arranging an event abroad humbles you. In Jakarta, I would know which bakery I'd contact to provide for snacks, who would document the event, and friends as well as family who would be there. In the end, I managed with a plate of banana fritters I brought from Jakarta and pinneaple buns from an Asian bakery.
Thank you for those who joined us in welcoming The Magnolia Grows at Night and for the conversations around care and language. Heartfelt thanks to Tee, Alex, and Jamie for hosting Terang Press.
In the last scene was an origami made by Tee for every book purchase, we got a dragon! Soon, we will share a writing about the reading event and around Typewronger books.

The Magnolia Grows at Night, a poetry reading on May 5th ✨
Join Fransisca Angela for a live reading from The Magnolia Grows at Night, followed by an intimate sharing into its making. Through letters between the artist’s Chinese-Indonesian grandmother and a Dutch nun, the work traces relationships of care across generations, alongside an introduction to Terang Press, an Indonesian publisher.
The Magnolia Grows at Night is drawn from a diary kept during the making of a film of the same title, which will have its festival screening at Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival in Hawick. The work emerges from a friendship and correspondence between the artist’s grandmother and a Dutch missionary nun in the former Dutch East Indies. A decade after her grandmother’s death, Fransisca traced the address in Maastricht that led her to a convent, where a community of Indonesian nuns care for elderly Dutch nuns. The event will open up spaces to discuss the role of care, and the caregiver.
A large Magnolia tree stood in the convent's garden, witnessing the care duties and devoted lives these women have chosen to live. The artist book combines prose, poetry, archival images, and photograms from the magnolia petals. The work is made in dialogue with the community of Zusters Onder de Bogen.
Tickets are available for free on our website, typewronger.com/events

More than a year ago, while waiting patiently for Spring to arrive in the convent’s garden. I keep returning to the same magnolia tree, the same Sunday mass’ at the chapel. But with time, the walls go quieter, with less number of people who sat inside the chapel and around the table. While making the film, The Magnolia Grows at Night, I kept writing to keep track of memory, and stories from people that I’ve met along the way, as an anchor to return to, if one day my own memory fails me.
The book was printed a year ago, and published under @terangpress. This year, to celebrate the film’s first festival screening at Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival, Scotland. We will host collective program in Edinburgh. More soon on Terang Press 🤍

Our first long-form article, notes on publishing Sipit is finally live (link in bio). This writing is a reflection on the ordinary Chinese-Indonesian experience, the poet Widji Thukul, @yosephinesalim's early journey on making collages with Orhan Pamuk writing, along with conversations from our public programs at @margin__space
and @post_santa in February 2026.
This long collaborative journey of publishing Sipit has taught me that talking about everyday life fromthe locality of our own position matters, and that we should continue working collectively to write and speak about the erased and forgotten narratives.

It's been nearly two months since we brought Sipit second edition to the world. Behind this page, we've been reflecting on the process and the conversations that unfolded during our public programs.
Next week, we'll be sharing our first longform article alongside the launch of our Substack. If you'd like to read it, subscribe at terang.substack.com

Since the beginning, we wanted our book launch to serve as a collective space for thinking, feeling, and reflecting. Excerpt from Bayi-Bayi 98 and other poems will be read out loud for the first time this Sunday with friends and soon-to-be friends alike.
Join us this Sunday @margin__space to celebrate the launch of Sipit, a collection of North Jakarta poems and collages by @yosephinesalim through a collective spoken word and small showcase of the collages.
🗓️You still have time to RSVP via link in our bio or go to tinyurl.com/SipitTerangPress
With introduction by @maesy_ang and discussion between @yosephinesalim and @charlennekayla , snacks included! Looking forward to seeing you there.

Sipit arrives like a knock from North Jakarta, a reminder that poetry and stories from this region are scarce, yet deeply desired. Like a drop of lapciong hitting a hot pan, #BukuSipit returns to wake our senses. This new edition, published with Terang Press (@terangpress), features additional poems and a new design.
The book opens a space for those who have lived in-between, shaped by multiple identities and never fully fitting into any single box. Beyond questions of identity, Yosephine’s poems confront class inequality, the exhaustion of Jakarta’s working class, struggles with faith, anger, and the intimate tensions of family life. Stories rooted in Jakarta Utara, yet resonate far beyond it.
Mirroring the rhythm of Keluar and Masuk, the evening unfolds as a journey: first outward, into the pulse of the streets, then inward, toward reflection of oneself and grief. We invite you to gather, read aloud, listen closely, and celebrate #BukuSipit together in the spirit of the Lunar New Year.
📅 Sunday, 15 February 2026

Sipit by @yosephinesalim returns on 15 February 2026, just in time for the Lunar New Year. The book opens a space for those who have lived in-between, shaped by multiple identities and never fully fitting into any single box.

This edition with Terang Press features seven additional poems and new design by @cleotsw . Announcement for our launch program will come this week.

was born out of @fransiscangela's admiration of language and printed matter. During her residency in Amsterdam, she spent a good amount of time beside the riso machine making pamphlets and eventually her book (The Magnolia Grows at Night). Having surrounded by friends who write and make books encourage her to start terang press, to be able to share more of her friend's writing: poetry, parables, short stories.
Most of the stories that speak to her came from a similar thread: remembering a place, a word someone used to say, coming from friends being away from 'home'. Writing then becomes a way to hold on to this root, and come together as a community. Being a visual artist, it came naturally for her to also incorporate visual language in how terang press structure narrative within a book.
On the second slide was her favorite notebooks from Signum stationary store in Firenze.

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
