Bec Smith
2024 Sydney Contemporary, Ravenswood Art Prize Finalist. Represented @saint_cloche Gallery Sydney. Left-handed + more quirks

“For me the natural occurrence of metamorphosis is one of natural instinct and reoccurring patterns. I leaned heavily on this. For the first time relying directly on my innate design instincts in a way that was true to my nature with further adaptation. The patterns that Evolution have iterated on to master changing from one thing into another is not instant but rather a slow incremental shift, and I feel I’m arriving at this destination, wherever it may be.”

Upcoming Sydney Contemporary 2024
I’m excited to be presenting new works ‘TECTONIC’ at @sydneycontemporary with @saint_cloche in two weeks time.
I’ve been reiterating on my shapes, merging them into one another to form fresh visual material and renewed feedback for me, while using colour to differentiate repetition and perspective. I’m still curious about the interlocking of shapes — I feel this is a natural, lateral movement for a designer’s eye, an adaptation from isometrics and perspective drawing yet taking a step into for-its-own-sake exploration. I’ve also engaged again in the notion of sculptural element, removing conventional constraints and creating new problems for myself to solve.
I cannot wait to show you more here in the coming weeks, and if you’re visiting the art fair please come to visit Saint Cloche’s booth J10 between 5th - 8th at Carriageworks where I’ll be showing alongside @evi_o and @saxonjjquinn in the combined group show METAMORPHOSIS. More to come.

Proudly representing works by Bec Smith
Bec Smith’s formal design background comes into play in her approach to colour as a building block to creation alongside form and arrangement. Her work as a UX Designer informs her art practice, which gives artistic expression to the mapping of people’s thoughts, emotions and circumstances. In capturing the dynamics of human interactions, colour becomes the mode by which these are differentiated and instilled with beauty.

Slightly late after the exhibition but wanted to give thanks for a few things. Thank you to these three people pictured here, Ewan, Victoria and Vikki for including me in their Radiant Pavilion presentation. To share their knowledge and expertise with me- a non jeweller- as well Ewan and Vic sharing their new serenely designed space, @creomelbourne, go visit if you haven’t yet.
Thanks to those who turned up despite the rain to view the work and celebrate the creation of new things with us. I wish I’d brought my camera out sooner but the oysters kept me busy, so there were many people I missed getting a pic of @lopezville @99problemos @graham_alderton, @squidgyandwonky @likeabatoutofhello, thanks to you also for coming. ✨
Now that the exhibition is over my small sculpture pieces are available through me. So feel free to get in touch!
