Thanks to @artreview_magazine for this write up of Conditions in the context of alternative art schools. Setting up and running something like Conditions against the backdrop of intense social, economic and political change over the last 5 years has been complicated and maintaining its independence has been hard, but crucial. It was easy to think when we started with Conditions in 2018 that it was in response to a decade of turmoil that had rippled out from 2008 and had a profoundly negative effect on structures of living, structures of education and the intrinsic value of art and culture as part of life. Many of these pressures have in fact accelerated during the period that Conditions has been open, which whilst making the headwinds stronger, ultimately validates the need for alternative voices and action with projects such as Conditions. There are too many people to mention individually, but thank you to everyone who has been part of Conditions so far. 💚
Some of this sense of accelerating forward in chaotic times will be captured in our forthcoming @nts_radio programme, at the invitation of @mark.leckey to be broadcast on 21 March. (watch this space for more info)
