Listen up gays! It's the first Monday in May and we got somethin’ to say.

This “gender stuff” isn’t just about trans people. It’s attacks on families, medical providers, attacks on you – and we need to fight together now more than ever.

Gender Liberation Movement is holding the line: we’re building power in the streets, in media, and for affirming families of trans & non binary kids. From now through Pride season, we’re raising 250k to make the work sustainable for the long haul.

HHS Is Trying To Ban Care For Trans Youth.
We Showed Up & Made Our Public Comment! 📢🏳️‍⚧️

On Tuesday, over 50 parents of trans youth and activists gathered at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) headquarters to protest proposed federal rules that would create a de facto national ban on gender-affirming care for trans youth. We acted on the final day of the public comment period because we refuse to quietly watch this administration weaponize Medicaid funding to strip families of life-saving healthcare. Twenty-five people were arrested while blockading the building’s main entrance.

Close to forty hospitals across the country have already halted youth programs due to threats to federal funding. HHS has even signaled enforcement against LGBTQ-focused providers like Callen-Lorde and the LA LGBT Center — including in states without bans. This is not about protecting young people. It is about political distraction and control.

We refuse to preemptively comply. Since the start of this administration, we’ve led a bathroom sit-in at the U.S. Capitol, administered HRT publicly outside the Supreme Court, and now blockaded HHS.

Trans youth deserve care. Families deserve safety. Our communities deserve dignity.

We will defy hatred. We will organize boldly. We will build a society rooted in gender liberation for every/body.

Trans people aren’t just part of history—we are the cultural architects of resistance and reinvention. From the ballroom scenes that birthed voguing to the underground zines that pushed queer theory forward, trans and nonbinary people have shaped movements, aesthetics, and radical thought for generations.

We’ve been at the frontlines of labor movements, feminist organizing, and racial justice struggles. Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera weren’t just at Stonewall—they built the first trans housing and mutual aid networks. Miss Major didn’t just fight back against police violence—she’s been mentoring new generations of abolitionists for decades.

In pop culture, we set the trends—from drag culture to fashion to music. They steal our language, our style, our art—but they can’t erase the brilliance that fuels it.

Trans people don’t just survive—we create. And nothing they do will stop us from building the future we deserve.

Affirming families of trans youth have been at the center of GLM’s work since our founding. As attacks on trans youth healthcare have escalated across the country — forcing some families to leave their home states, and others to leave the country altogether — we’ve supported and organized alongside dozens of families fighting for safety, dignity, and care.

In December 2024, during the SCOTUS hearing for US v. Skrmetti, we photographed several of these families for @voguemagazine.

Tr*nny? From @Nancyrmace ? Groundbreaking.

In December 2024, weeks after Mace started her bathroom bigotry, GLM staged a bathroom sit-in where fifteen of us were arrested. While we were held, Mace showed up to the police headquarters and screamed slurs at us in her megaphone. She hasn’t stopped her bigotry since and at this point, it’s getting veryyyy tired.

GLM is committed to fighting back against this type of anti-trans hatred. We’re building power in the streets, in media, and for affirming families of trans & non binary kids. From now through Pride season, we’re raising 250k to make the work sustainable for the long haul.

The parent of a transgender teen demanded answers from the Times at its annual shareholders meeting on April 22nd about its long and recent record of inaccurate and biased coverage of transgender people.

She described deep concerns about the Times’ reporting being cited to justify unprecedented harm against transgender people, including by the Trump administration, by extremist state lawmakers, and at the U.S. Supreme Court.

A.G. Sulzberger, New York Times Publisher, responded with familiar defense of the Times’ practices, made inaccurate and unsubstantiated claims, and evaded a key part of the question about the harmful consequences of Times’ coverage.

We're getting déjà vu! A few lines from @nytimes response to questions about biased anti trans reporting were almost word-for-word the same in 2025 & now 2026. The New York Times is sticking to its talking points instead of taking the concerns of trans people and their loved ones seriously.

The NYT believes their coverage on trans people has been fair and comprehensive – we beg to differ!

GLM affirming mom of a trans teen, Brooke Williams, confronted the New York Times during its annual meeting for shareholders about its anti-trans coverage, which the Trump administration and others have repeatedly cited to justify discrimination and harm. The Times reporting on trans people, particularly trans youth and access to healthcare, has been biased, elevating anti-trans activists' faux concerns while claiming them as experts.

Research found more than half of Times stories about trans people didn’t even include trans voices. GLAAD and a coalition of 100+ leaders have called for accountability with the Times, but the paper of record have bucked the criticisms under the guise of institutional reporting.

We deserve better, more accurate coverage of trans people. We join @GLAAD in demanding the New York Times improve their coverage, meet with trans leaders, and hire trans journalists.

Some good news! A federal judge blocked RFK Jr.’s declaration on healthcare for trans youth—and didn’t hold back. Calling his actions “unserious” and outside the bounds of the law, the court made it clear RFK Jr. lacked authority to unilaterally establish standards of care for trans youth.

There are still proposed rules by HHS pending that would leverage federal funding against providers who provide care for trans youth, but this part of HHS plan to attack trans youth has been blocked. For that, we celebrate 🎉

Affirming families of trans youth are a cornerstone of our work. A few weeks ago, we gathered families and their supporters and asked them what that space + a gender liberated future meant to them 💜💚✨
