A portion of each ticket sale goes to the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation—their school district just suffered massive budget cuts, so even putting a small amount back into the community feels good. I can hardly believe this, but I’ve been nominated for the 2025 Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year by the National Cartoonists Society—also known as the legendary Reuben Award!! Past winners include some of my all-time heroes: Bill Watterson, Lynn Johnston, Patrick McDonnell, Lynda Barry, and Richard Thompson, to name just a few!
Nominations come directly from NCS members, and I could not be more humbled—this is a big one for me. These are the folks who make COMIC STRIPS. The comic strips that kid-Raina ran downstairs to read in the newspaper every morning before school, bought as yearly collections to re-read over and over, and inspired me to pick up my pencil and draw draw draw. I have these cartoonists to thank for everything already, and now they’ve nominated me for an award?? My heart just might explode.
The winner will be announced August 7th at the Reuben Awards banquet during the annual NCS Conference. This year marks the 80th Anniversary of the National Cartoonists Society, and I can’t wait to join my fellow cartoonists (and fellow Reuben Award nominees, several of whom are my friends!!) there to celebrate!
