Let’s get experimental 🎞️

New to #IFFO this year: @canadianfilminstitute’s Café Ex — an ongoing visiting artist series showcasing artist‑curated evenings of independent experimental film and video in an intimate space.

📽️ This edition features Métis filmmaker and Café Ex alum Rhayne Vermette, returning with her second feature Levers — a hypnotic 16 mm descent into shadow and light, shot on broken Bolex cameras.

Join us tonight at 7:00 PM at Club SAW for an evening of experimental film and conversation.

This year's program underscores Ottawa’s reputation as a hub for film production and storytelling, including these three Ottawa-made short films.

✨ THE PAVILION (March 15 at4:00 PM)— Directed by Ottawa filmmaker @pixie_cram, this short follows two young girls who take inspiration from a magical storybook to help their ailing mother.

💌 NANCY (March 15 at 6:30 PM) — Directed by @lynda_louisa_hall, this personal documentary follows her trip to Thunder Bay, as she seeks a connection to the city that might have been hers had her mother not been sent to Ottawa as a pregnant teenager and forced to give her up for adoption.

🪚 L'ATELIER MARTINEAU (March 21 at 6:30 PM) — Directed by Ottawa-based filmmaker @defreezie, this short offers an introspective look at Lucille Martineau, a third-generation carpenter working in the same workshop her grandfather built in 1911.

All three shorts were made with support of Ottawa's @digitalartsresourcecentre. #IFFO2026 tickets and passes at the link in bio.

@thetrackmovie drops us into post-war Sarajevo with Mirza, Zlatan, and Hamza as they chase Olympic dreams on a decaying luge track, pushed forward by their determined coach Senad. Over five years, this festival favourite captures late-night street life, big ambitions, and the fragile hope of a future.
