@sifa_sg returns from May 15 to 30, transforming the city into a living stage where there’s truly something for everyone – whether you’re dipping your toes into the arts or diving straight into the deep end 🎭🎶
At the centre of it all is the long-awaited return of the Festival Village at Empress Lawn. This year, it’s extending to Anderson Bridge – a free, open-access space inspired by the festive spirit of the 1990s and 2000s. Expect everything from intergenerational music and movement in ‘Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming’ to ‘Automata’, a late-night series exploring film, movement and sound.
Beyond the Festival Village, SIFA brings together a powerful lineup of international productions:
👗 ‘Lacrima’: A moving look behind a couture wedding dress across continents
🎭 ‘Hamlet’: A bold reimagining performed by actors with Down Syndrome
🌍 ‘Planet [wanderer]’: A striking dance work shaped by gravity and natural forces
💔 ‘Hedda Gabler’: A gripping take on desire and societal constraint
📍 Various venues across Singapore

It’s not too long ago that we bid farewell to Warong Nasi Pariaman, but its shuttered space at 738 North Bridge Road won’t be staying empty for long. Stepping into the space next is Indonesian nasi padang chain Sederhana’s very first Singapore outlet.
The chain is a heavyweight in its own right with more than 200 outlets across Indonesia, plus regional branches in Malaysia and expansion plans beyond. Expect familiar Minangkabau staples like rendang daging, dendeng balado and ayam pop on the menu. 🍛

This unexpected find in Kampong Glam turned out to be our favourite new bar of the year so far, with cocktails between $23 to $26. 🍸 @players_table is the brainchild of two industry veterans who wanted to challenge themselves to make perfectly balanced cocktails built around two core ingredients. And safe to say, they nailed the brief. Here are our must-orders:
- Mugicha x Shiso ($24) is a must if you love Japanese barley tea and subtle flavours. The highball-style cocktail has warm, toasty notes, the distinct aroma of shiso and a nice citrus lift thanks to shikuwasa or Okinawa lime.
- Bell Pepper x Melon ($23) is equally impressive. You get an unmistakable whiff of bell peppers, supported by the oaky, vanilla flavours of aged Topanito Reposado, followed by a hint of melon that's subtle but not undetectable.
- Mango x Bird's Eye Chilli ($24). If you are a mango and spice lover, this is the best of both worlds. It's creamy, sweet, tangy and definitely packs a punch. The secret ingredient? A house-made salted caramel that ties it all together.
