Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Utility Objects is the creation of Afro-Latina ceramicist Aleisha Duchateau (Doo-sha-TOE). In this one-woman studio,I blend organic textures and glazes to create contemporary, handcrafted pieces. Each work celebrates the inherent beauty of clay, often featuring distinctive satin or rock-like finishes. Utility Objects designs draw inspiration from wabi-sabi (emphasizing the handmade) from Japan as well as European splatterware designs from the 18th century. These influences are used to craft unique pieces for everyday use and artful displays.

Do I really make all of these in-house? 🏺

It’s a question I get asked a lot, and the answer is a big YES! From raw clay to the final product, every piece is created right here in my studio.

My days are a revolving door of throwing, glazing, answering emails (as fast as my hands can dry!), and product photography—usually with a very helpful assistant by my side 🐾 and our assistant Lulu glazing and shipping away ty ty!

They told us buying a home while self-employed would be hard - - some even said it was darn near impossible, we did it though! After a decade in our apartment and late nights in the studio we have our very own fixer-upper. We've been painting, cleaning and now prepping the floors for refinishing, more to come on that soon 😄🎄
