The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University

The undergraduate Columbia Engineering Class of 2026 will hear from a leader who knows how to navigate uncharted waters. Global shipping executive Angeliki Frangou MS'88, chair and CEO of Navios Maritime Partners, will serve as the Class Day speaker for the undergraduate ceremony on May 18.
Frangou built her career in commercial shipping at a time when few women occupied senior roles in the field, ultimately transforming Navios into a global transportation benchmark.
“The Class of 2026 is entering a world of both tremendous change—and, with it, great opportunity,” said Frangou. “I look forward to sharing my experience on how to navigate a changing and uncertain world that is a source of opportunity.”

Engineering alum Thomas Caulfield earned three degrees at Columbia. Now he’s back to share words of wisdom with the Graduate Class of 2026 as this year’s Class Day speaker, on May 18.
As executive chairman of GlobalFoundries, one of the world's largest semiconductor manufacturers, Caulfield has had an extensive career spanning more than 30 years in engineering, executive management, and global operational leadership.
“I’m honored to address the Class of 2026 at this transformative time for technology and business in the world,” said Caulfield. “My time at Columbia Engineering shaped not only my technical foundation, but also my approach to critical thinking and structured problem-solving.”

What happens when you take the lecture hall out of the equation? Real conversation.
This semester, we kicked off a new faculty-student lunch series designed to bring students and professors together outside the classroom for candid, casual conversation.
The series launched in March with Electrical Engineering Professor David Vallancourt and wrapped up in April with Computer Science Professor Tony Dear — with great conversations in between.
Born out of Dean Shih-Fu Chang's discussions with the Engineering Student Council, the initiative aims to build stronger connections between faculty and students beyond office hours and lectures.
