Every authoritarian playbook starts the same way: target the most vulnerable. And once that first domino falls, the rest become easier to knock down. In America, that first domino is undocumented immigrants.

At NILC, we’re fighting every day to keep that first domino standing because protecting immigrants’ rights protects our democracy.

Across the country, people can’t afford to pay rent, buy groceries, or see a doctor. And yet, Congress just handed ICE an annual budget that’s bigger than most militaries.
 
It’s time to ask:

- Who benefits from keeping working people divided and immigrants undocumented?
- How is there endless money to tear apart communities but never enough when it comes to investing in our wellbeing?

There are seven-year-olds in this country right now who are afraid to go to school.

Not because of bullies. Not because of grades. Because ICE is parked outside their building, and their mom told them not to talk to anyone they don’t recognize.

In 1982, the Supreme Court ruled that every child in this country has the right to go to public school. Doesn’t matter where your parents are from. You’re a kid. You go to school. That’s been the law for over 40 years.

The Heritage Foundation wants that gone. They published the playbook. States are already running it.

We are watching adults decide which children deserve to learn to read.

🗣️FUND CARE, NOT ICE!
Republicans are pushing $70 billion into ICE and Border Patrol while families are struggling to afford health care, groceries, gas, and utilities. ICE is a death machine. This bill hands them another blank check to expand harm in our communities. Since Trump took office, at least 49 people have died in ICE custody because of neglect, abuse, and inhumane conditions. That’s one life lost every 10 days.
