Some professional news: I have launched a new website/magazine thing called @thestory.au!
It’s full of practical advice to help you tell your own story more effectively, and impractical non-advice (longform journalism, you might call it) about the stories that shape the world around us.
I’ll be updating it ~infrequently~ as no one needs more ~~daily content~~, but the first round of articles is up and there’s some truly good stuff on there—particularly, I would say, from @clementine_ford and James Hennessy and Rachel Withers.
Many thanks to @mikepre for making it look fully sick, @emilythiang for her mad photo-illustration skills, and to my boss, aka @benhart, for coming up with the idea and then employing me to realise it.
We’ll have more good stuff online shortly (though as I said, not in the next hour). If following *yet another* magazine doesn’t fill you with dread, I would make the case for following @thestory.au, if only to make me happy. xx

Of all the stories I worked on while editing Smith, this was maybe my favourite: a profile on NASA physicist-turned-origami master Robert J Lang.
With nothing but a sheet of paper and some high-level mathematics, Lang uncovered unexpected resonances between art and science. He quit his job as a laser physicist in 2001, and has spent the years since pushing the boundaries of what we now know is possible, origami-wise. His work is all very singular and makes me feel like I need a more impressive hobby.
Anyway, nice photos care of the very talented @crls.chavarria

Professional photographers sometimes refer to the time just before sunset as ‘the Golden Hour’. No idea why.

I spoke with Andrew W.K. about his love for Jesus Christ Superstar in the latest Smith. I was only vaguely aware of his work beforehand but am now a full disciple of this lovely, white panted party animal. What a sweetie. (Illo: @hellogritti)

Shoutout to the stranger who kindly offered to take this photo of us in Florence
