Come join us on Sunday, 30 May, from 14:00 to 17:00, for a creative mapping session with queer migrant communities.

In this workshop, participants will be invited to map their experiences of visibility and safety, reflecting on how different spaces across the city and beyond shape the way they feel, move and express their bodies.

Think of the last time you walked into a room and immediately felt tension in your body. What was it in that space that made you feel this way: was it the way someone looked at you, the atmosphere, the energy in the room, the sounds around you? How safe did you feel there, and how visible did you allow your queerness to be?

And what about spaces that feel like home, places that seem to hold and comfort us? What makes them feel so caring and safe? How do our bodies and expressions change in those environments, and what kind of space allows us to be vulnerable?

Together, we will create a collective map of our everyday experiences of space. We will look at how we move through different environments, and notice the often unseen emotional work of reading and scanning spaces for safety that queer people do on a daily basis. In doing so, we will reflect on how gender and sexuality are not fixed identities, but can shift in form and expression depending on where we are and how we feel in our bodies.

The series is an initiative by artist and researcher Ilya Genov and is co-hosted by De Voorkamer, Casco Art Institute, and BAK Basecamp.

Together, we will draw, listen, and discover. You do not need any drawing experience to participate.

✨ Ontdek de kunst van de linosnede bij SOUK ✨

Doe mee aan onze speciale, kindvriendelijke linosnede-workshop. Maak je eigen ansichtkaarten met voorgesneden linosnede-ontwerpen met symbolen en afbeeldingen geïnspireerd op de sfeer van een souk, een traditionele Arabische openluchtmarkt. Je drukt met linoplaten die speciaal zijn ontworpen door @ler__oy van De Voorkamer's Lino Group.

Deze workshop vindt plaats tijdens @souk_utrecht, een cultureel festival dat de rijkdom van de WANA-regio viert met een ambachtsmarkt, kunst, culinaire ervaringen, een podiumprogramma, workshops, een kinderprogramma en optredens.

Met verschillende kleuren en inkten kunnen kinderen experimenteren en de magie van de linosnede ontdekken. Geen eerdere ervaring vereist 🎨🌿

✨ Discover the art of linocut printing at SOUK ✨

Join us for a special child-friendly lino workshop edition. Create your own postcards using pre-carved linocut designs with symbols and images inspired by the atmosphere of a souk, a traditional Arabic outdoor market. You’ll print with lino plates specially designed by @ler__oy from De Voorkamer’s Lino Group.

This workshop will take place during @souk_utrecht, a culture festival celebrating the riches of the WANA region with an artisan market, art, culinary experiences, stage program, workshops, kids program, and performances.

Using different colours and inks, children can experiment and discover the magic of linocut printmaking. No previous experience needed 🎨🌿

Join us for Reading Feminism: on the 17th of May there will be the second of the three lectures on feminist reproductive politics!
We will read the chapter New Feminist Biopolitics in Ultra-low-fertility East Asia, by Huang & Wu, from the book Making Kin Not Population.

The lecture series by Reading Feminism experiments with reclaiming academic forms of learning with reference to their historical origins. We propose lectures and seminar as forms of community cultivation inside a cultural community center. We also aim to give credence to feminist scholars' work and the value of their writings for feminist lives and feminist literacy outside universities confines.

This specific series' theme advances three different texts that inspire alternatives to (colonial) government monopolies on how humans can and should have intimate relationships and reproduce. This time we will go to East Asia!

This Sunday, 10 May, from 11:00 to 16:00 (incl. lunch), De Voorkamer is hosting a special training: Embodying Conflict – Theatre, Movement and Play! 🤼💬🎭

At De Voorkamer, we aim to create a safe(r) space where we can learn together how to navigate misunderstandings and conflicts as they arise.

In this training, we’ll come together to experiment with improvisation and Theatre of the Oppressed exercises, explore our own patterns and vulnerabilities in moments of conflict, and play with scenarios around boundaries and cultural differences — all within a supportive and playful environment.

The session will be facilitated by two members of De Voorkamer community, Fiona and Amaia, who bring experience in conflict transformation, Nonviolent Communication (NVC), and creative facilitation.

This Sunday, 10 May, from 14:00 to 18:00, you have a unique chance to tune in to @strandedfm and listen to five special radio shows created by the soon-to-be graduates of De Voorkamer Radio course.

Over the past few weeks, participants of the course, co-organised by De Voorkamer and Stranded FM, have been following a beginner-level training in radio-making. They’ve been learning how to create their own radio broadcasts, from scriptwriting and interview techniques to hands-on experience with studio equipment, music selection, and teamwork.
