”weave” diabolo short film
⏳Weave is a diabolo video, that includes my new diabolo technique research from 2023 onwards. The video focuses on a single technique that is a logical next step in the traditional way of playing diabolo.
🎭In addition to the technique this video is a deeper dive into my own personal world, and a look into what I personally would like to create in the future.
🗻The journey to finishing this 6 minute piece started in 2022 when Mikko Pirinen (@zeeco_mikko )challenged me with a visual concept for a juggling video.
Then in 2023 Bow ( @bow_juggler ) asked me some questions on why this technique didn’t exist in diabolo already.
🏋🏻After that I spent the whole 2024 and most of 2025 practicing and mastering this technique. The filming and post production was done between March 2025 and October 2025. And now finally...
I am proud to present to you

Finally after a long time in developement I am pleased to announce ”Pyörre”!!!!🌀🌀🌀 the premier will be exactly in a month at @annantalo 😍😍
This is a solo piece I’ve been working on for a while. It will be a contemporary circus show for anyone over 5 years of age. Pyörre is made as a co-production with Circo Aereo.
”The swirling, hypnotic movement created by acrobatics and juggling incorporates not only objects and materials, but also sound and light. Pyörre is a combination of different circus acts and their encounters – a collection of movements, moods and mental images.”
More info and content to come😌

Here is my take on last weeks trending whip tech!
The fast 8 one I’ve been performing for a while now, and the slow alternating one I tried first time today!
@aaronbonkshow @j.whipper @shewhips have you guys tried this one?

Perfroming led-diabolos isn’t something I normally do, but I do enjoy it when asked🤠

Lumous varietee @aleksanterinteatteri this sunday (1.3.) at 17:00🤩
1) #trickroping ; I’ve been slowly but surely grinding this discipline and it has become one of my go to when doing more traditional gigs😎
2) #acrostaff ; this discipline I’ve started practicing last autumn. It is something I have ideas on and I am very happy to be able to perform it for the first time now!
3) acrostaff#whipcracking ; in the show I will be doing bunch of different whip cracking! One of which is the asw, which I premiered in sweden a year ago.

Last of my favourite variations.
Honestly at this point if you include all the post process notes I’ve probably posted every one variation separately🤷🏻♂️

If you feel like this never ends, that’s exactly how making this video felt. BUT!!! The finish line for this project is closing in🏁
1 colours🎨
A lot of people who haven’t done any colouring don’t really understand the amount of skill and effort it takes. Personally I am not a professional at any means, but I think I got a good taste of what it could be through this project! As you can see, the footage is naturally very high contrast! This made it very interesting to work with😌
2 editing ✂️
This was one of the most fun parts of post production. For this project it was also one of the ”easiest” things for me to do. I did have moments where I just re-did everything + figuring out howI wanted the video paced was definetly a decision I had to look for. However, I did edit most of the video at the same time as I was filming AND having all the planning helped a TON!
3 intro sound🔇
Same as with colours, people don’t understand the amount of effort put into this. It literally took me days to make what felt to me was a right choice. It is all made from one whispered sample, but cut to many pieces with so much going on ”under the hood”. Such an investment for such a short piece of sound🤓
4 thumbnail
I think it is quite descriptive of the video tbh😎
5-6 publishing
This also takes surprisingly a lot of time and thought. When is the best time? What are the hashtags? Where do I post? How do I promote it?
7 post production
This. Takes. Time. Again :D everything just feels like a lot of effort. I am very grateful that some people take the time to read these. Hopefully it also inspires others to make projects😌
8 to-do list of weave
This is it. After that I think I am done. Can’t wait to archive this project.
9 screening in Orivesi
I applied for some film festivals etc with the video. Luckily one at least will happen😍 hopefully a few more in the future 🤞🏻

Out of all the difficult 3d variations this one is my absolute favourite to do😍 I landed it multiple times, and quite cleanly in the training hall.
The filming was again difficult tho! The location I had set for this trick wasn’t working anymore, as the sun wasn’t so high in august as it was mid july. Luckily, I did find a good location nearby😮💨
Full video of ”weave” is watchable in youtube or my ig profile!! Check it out!!

Maisemassa – tanssi- ja sirkuselokuvanäytös teosesittely 🍃💚
Weave – Eetu Ranta
Weave on diabolon ympärille rakentuva lyhytelokuva, joka kuljettaa katsojan meditatiiviselle matkalle toiston, rytmin ja muuttuvien maisemien kautta. Teoksen toistuvat kuviot ja vaihtuvat kuvauspaikat herättävät kaihoa jotakin mennyttä kohtaan.
Teos pohjautuu vuodesta 2023 eteenpäin tehtyyn yhteen tekniikkaan keskittyvään diabolon tutkimukseen ja pitkäjänteiseen harjoitteluun. Kuvaukset toteutettiin luonnonvalon ehdoilla Ruotsissa ja Suomessa.

Weave is a diabolo short film that takes the viewer on a meditative journey via the art of diabolo. The masterful repetitive patterns and changing locations evoke feelings of longing for something that once was.
On the technical side weave includes new diabolo technique research from 2023 onwards. The video focuses on a single technique that is a logical next step in the traditional way of playing diabolo. The filming was done at the mercy of the sun in Finland and Sweden.

This part was such a process :D many amazing things happened aswell as obstacles on the way.
1 a shot that didn’t make it to the cut (for attention)🤷🏻♂️
2 applause from random kids passing by👏🏻
Meeting people in the streets was actually one of the highlights always! It felt like social training for myself honestly🤓
3 a backganded compliment from a swedish person 😂
Some big obstacles were:
4 sweating like crazy in the heat 🥵
5 cold, shaky hands with diabolos hitting them hurts🥲
6 trying to not lose diabolos! Almost happened a few times!
7 insane gusts of wind. I just couldn’t miss a day of sunlight, so I powered through!
8 waiting for my turn. The streets were filled with people sometimse, so getting wide shots was very time consuming🕰️
9 clouds🌥️ no sunlight = no clip
10-11 cars getting parked in the frame. People have to work, so what can I do but wait🤓
12 timeframes for spots. This clip was 12 minutes of filming. 12!!! To land a 3d variation was sooooo difficult. I am so happy I pushed through though! This made the video special imo!
13-15 fun places for camera angles✨
16 a kid finding out what a diabolo is😍 I siwh I had extra and could give some to him. He was so excited!
17 happy me landing tricks🥰 (”vittu jes” means fck yea in finnish)
Watch the full video on yt or ig on my profile!😍

6 trying to not lose diabolos! Almost happened a few times!
