Well.
I finally published my first SubStack.

“This is exactly the moment where attention matters most. Because rights don’t disappear all at once. They erode… slowly, strategically, and often without urgency. That’s why it is critical to wipe the sleep from our eyes, pull the plugs from our ears, and reach our hands out for one another. In tandem, we need leaders, fighters, and also citizens to simply hold the line.”

I’m elated to share that I have qualified unopposed as the candidate for the Tennessee Democratic Party State Executive Committeewoman for Senate District 19.

THIS IS NOT THE FINISH LINE, IT’S THE STARTING LINE.

🤝 The work ahead means organizing, supporting Democratic candidates, strengthening our party infrastructure, and building a bigger, more engaged Democratic base across Tennessee.

This moment also means something much deeper to me.

In 2023, I ran my first race and lost.
And, like anyone who cares deeply about their community, that loss has weighed heavily on me.

But it also clarified something important:

☑️ This work was never about one race…
or even about me. It’s about the long game of building power, supporting communities + our leaders, and strengthening our Democratic Party.

Sometimes losing isn’t the end of the road,
it’s the moment that shows you exactly who you are and will lead you to where you’re supposed to be.

💙 Thank you to everyone who signed my petition and encouraged me to step forward.

I’M READY TO GRIND because the work of protecting democracy and building a better Tennessee doesn’t happen every two years — it happens every day.

✊If you believe in building a stronger Democratic Party in Tennessee, JOIN ME.

I’m for us. I am not waiting to start the job until after the August 6 election… My first fundraising event will be announced soon!

LET’S GET TO WORK.

After my campaign loss in 2023, I took time to reflect, listen, and learn. But setbacks don’t define us — getting back up does. And today, I’m standing back up with renewed purpose, optimism, and determination.

The stakes are too high to sit on the sidelines.
Our country is at a crossroads, and I believe deeply in showing up for ALL people who call the United States home. Democracy is not guaranteed… it must be defended. Democracy only works when we participate, when we organize, advocate, and lift one another up.

As Jimmy Carter said:
“In our democracy, the only title higher and more powerful than that of president is the title of citizen.”

That’s the spirit carrying me forward. I’m running for @tndems Executive Committeewoman - Senate District 19 because I believe in community, in courage, and in the power of everyday people to shape our future — TOGETHER.

I am also honored to have @tessaldp stand with me as my campaign treasurer. I have been inspired by her principles, critical work with @tnjfon, and her friendship.

Let’s get to work.

👉 How You Can Support Now: Click on the link in my profile or head to wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/fml/search to check if you are in my district. If so, DM me - I would greatly appreciate if you would sign my petition to run. I need 40 more signatures before I can take the next steps for the August 6 election.

⚠️ Apparently my camera roll and my posting schedule are no longer on speaking terms.

So here’s a little catch-up:

🍜 Fashion, food, and conversation with @nashfashweek @apimidtn @givingkitchen @petersom @imnashville @eatavo

🗳️Working on @voterickewing’s campaign and enjoying a slice (or seven 🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕)at our event at @slimandhuskys

🗂️ Working behind the scenes for entrepreneursthrough the @mayorofnashvilletn Minority Business Advisory Council

Creatives, advocates, small business owners, and neighbors showing up for one another. I’m constantly reminded that the best moments are usually the ones spent bringing different people together.

Nashville, thank you! A whirlwind 2 days in Music City to celebrate my cookbook FAMILY STYLE.

So grateful to my friend @masulla @nashfashweek for hosting me. Thank you Chef @arnoldmyintbna of the iconic @imnashville for creating an amazing one night only meal inspired by my cookbook and@eatavo for the best happy hour.

Being in Nashville during AAPI Heritage Monthwas so meaningful as it was a chance to highlight community leaders from@apimidtn and @givingkitchen - these folks are doing the work to support and celebrate Nashville’s diversity- so this trip was so more than about my book- it was about community- thank you to everyone who came and supported! Y’all really turned out.

The work of bridging fashion, food, community and heritage means everything to me, and having that seen and celebrated is such a gift. Thank you Nashville, for the warmest welcome and for continuing to create space for these stories. 🙏✨

On October 23, 2019, I stood outside the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City with one of my very favorite New Yorkers, @lisaleeking, waiting to attend @colbertlateshow.

And now, watching one of the most intelligent and culturally important voices in late night television effectively pushed off air in his prime because he dared to challenge an unfit and destructive president should alarm every American, regardless of party. We are living in a climate where media corporations increasingly cave to political pressure, intimidation, profit protection, and authoritarian creep. That is not normal. It is dangerous.

When businesses and networks prioritize appeasing power over protecting truth-tellers, we all lose something vital.

Comedy has always been political because truth has always threatened fragile power. And @colbert mastered the rare art of making people laugh while also making them think, care, and pay attention. That matters. Immensely.

The erosion of independent voices, the silencing of criticism, and the normalization of intimidation tactics against journalists, artists, comedians, and advocates should terrify us far more than any punchline ever could.

Because this has never just been about late night television.
It’s about culture.
It’s about courage.

It’s about whether we still make room in America for people willing to challenge power with intelligence, humor, and humanity.

I’ll always remember that October night at the Ed Sullivan Theater… the lights glowing above Broadway, the anticipation in the crowd, the feeling of witnessing someone who had become part of our collective cultural fabric.

Stephen Colbert gave many of us more than entertainment over the years. He gave us relief. Perspective. Catharsis. A reminder that decency and humor could survive even in exhausting times.

And that legacy deserves far better than silence.

My friend and candidate @voterickewing hopped in front of the camera today with the wonderful@shannonfontaine for a campaign shoot.

It’s GO TIME and while most candidates decide to run, then go looking for issues to care about. Rick did it the other way around. The service came first.

🥊 Rick Ewing is ready to fight for Tennessee and District 59. Head to voterickewing.com to support Rick in the battle.

Rescue dogs are mighty. Main character energy. Tiny bit of trouble. 🐾

Reggie + Kamala Harris celebrated National Rescue Dog Day yesterday the only way they know how… Mischief and debauchery. 😎

How To Continue To Celebrate & Help?

Whether you’re ready to adopt or just want to get involved, there are several ways to pay your love forward for local dogs:

🦴Adopt: Save a life by bringing home a new furry family member.

🦴Foster: Offer a temporary home to give a shelter dog a break from the kennel and help them socialize.

🦴Volunteer: Offer your time at local rescues or shelters.

🦴Donate: Check the “wish lists” of local shelters for needed items like blankets, toys, and treats.

🦴 Follow my @tinybutmightyfund for news, adoptable pets, and more.

Fashion, food, hospitality, music, art, and culture all work together to tell the story of who we are as a city.

A very special thank you to our incredible special guest @petersom and event partners @arnoldmyintbna @annamyint and the entire @imnashville team for sharing your talents, your stories, and your generosity with all of us for Feast On Fashion.

Peter’s work has long beautifully bridged fashion, food, storytelling, and heritage in such an authentic and inspiring way. And The Myint family, through International Market are such an important part of Nashville’s cultural and culinary fabric. Spaces like this remind us that food is not just nourishment… it’s connection, identity, memory, and community.

We celebrated AAPI Heritage Month with our community partners @apimidtn @givingkitchen. Events like this are an opportunity not only to celebrate the contributions of Nashville’s Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, but to continue creating visibility, investment, and space for diverse voices and stories to thrive.

Through the Nashville Fashion Forward Fund, we remain deeply committed to investing in the next generation of creative talent right here in Middle Tennessee. Be sure to give us a follow and subscribe to our email list at nashvillefashionweek.com for updates and news!
