Today I proposed two amendments to the Republican budget reconciliation bill to 1) protect access to reproductive health care and 2) protect our federal workforce and SNAP.

Republicans tried to sneak this bill through the Rules Committee in the dead of the night. But we won’t let them get away with this, Dems have been here since 1am holding up the bill and fighting back.

This week, I joined @seiu_org to protest Republicans’ latest reconciliation bill which includes $350 billion more for Trump’s immigration enforcement machine.

Democrats have been successful in withholding funding for ICE so Republicans are now trying to abuse the reconciliation process to push ICE funding through. I know where the East Bay stands — I will continue to hold the line and fight for investments in healthcare, education, and workers OVER funding for an immigration terrorization campaign.

Last summer, the VA abruptly stopped two projects that would have expanded access to healthcare and services for veterans in the Bay Area. I immediately joined forces with @speakerpelosi, @senadamschiff, and @senalexpadilla to demand answers from the Administration.

After months of fighting, we got a WIN.

Last week, along with @repkevinmullin, we successfully secured language in the House-passed Fiscal Year 2027 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill that would require the Trump Administration to provide answers about the funding status of the two projects and VA’s rationale for halting them. I will continue to hold this Administration’s feet to the fire until the 28,000 veterans in my district have the answers they deserve.

While there is still more work to do to bolster reliable, safe, and affordable public transit, I am excited about the progress in the BUILD America 250 Act to reauthorize critical surface transportation programs.

Provisions in this bill reflect meaningful progress toward a more accessible, efficient, and people-centered transportation system. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to build on this foundation.

My heart is with the families and loved ones of Amin, Mansour, Nadir and the entire San Diego Muslim community. May Allah grant peace to their souls.

We must use this moment to find a new way forward. We all have a responsibility to call out the normalization of islamaphobic rhetoric and to work in real ways to end the epidemics of gun violence and faith-based discrimination.

Small businesses often operate with limited resources, making them especially vulnerable to cybersecurity attacks. That is why I am proud to introduce the Small Business Cybersecurity Assistance Evaluation Act.

This bill will help to protect main street businesses, especially minority-, women-, disabled-, and veteran-owned small businesses, against cybersecurity threats so they can remain operational and continue contributing to their communities and local economies.

I stood with my @congressionalblackcaucus colleagues in the midst of outrageous attacks on voting rights to oppose the SCORE Act, legislation that would reshape college athletics and Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) deals.

Together with athletes, advocates, and the @naacp, we sent a clear message to universities: you cannot continue to profit off of Black student athletes, while remaining silent about the disenfranchisement and racism we experience everyday.

I stood with my @congressionalblackcaucus colleagues in the midst of outrageous attacks on voting rights to oppose the SCORE Act, legislation that would reshape college athletics and Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) deals.

For decades, Head Start has improved health outcomes, strengthened families, and created safer, stronger communities. And now, in the face of massive funding cuts from this administration, we are standing firm to defend the essential services Head Start provides.

This past week, I opposed a bill that directly targets churches, charities, and nonprofits that provide bail support to families navigating a deeply unequal justice system.

Bail support was a cornerstone of the civil rights movement, allowing people to protest unjust laws without fear that they’d be locked away. By stripping away bail support, this bill not only dehumanizes individuals - it also covertly takes away the right to engage in civil disobedience. This is just another piece of the massive Republican push to silence and disenfranchise marginalized and low-income people.
