Some behind the scenes of our Install of ‘Build Stuff’ mural at Northern Design Festival @northerndesignfestival

The mural was made in collaboration with @steppingstonescreative. They promote, support and encourage the artistic endeavours of young people with additional needs. We worked together with their group volunteering at Princes Park Garden Centre. The theme that emerged in response to what gave the group members hope was of contributing: making things, growing and building stuff. This line came from the poem ‘Doing drilling’ by Jamie Barnett.

The mural’s structural, playful letterforms respond to this simple but powerful call to action and the satisfaction, joy — and importance — of cracking on and making stuff happen.

In considering which mural we took to Northern Design Festival — and to this venue — this one felt apt. Be it Northern Design Festival, Kanteena, or so many other good eggs we know, we have a huge amount of respect for those cracking on, building stuff using what they have — even if it’s not as much as some — to then share it with others, for everyone’s benefit.

There was so much crack-and-get-stuff-done energy in the room all week, and it was a proper joy. Big up NDF! x

A snippet from First Pressings, hosted by Split and @peoplepoweredpress last weekend as part of Saltaire Arts Trail @saltaireinspired .

First pressings is an exhibition of letterpress prints and album artwork for international jazz starts and alternative artist by Oli Bentley of design studio Split.

The handmade original letterpress prints included work for renowned jazz and instrumental artists including Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Zarik Hussain, John Patitucci, Jasper Høiby, Lionel Loueke, Matthew Bourne, Mark Guiana and Ben Wendel.

A lovely weekend filled with great vibes and ace tunes!
