Home Base
A national nonprofit dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war for Veterans, Service Members and their Families. 🇺🇸

May is #MilitaryAppreciationMonth — a time to remember and honor all the brave women and men, past and present, who answered our Nation's call to serve.
One way to show your appreciation for our Fallen Heroes and their Families this month is by volunteering at the iconic Memorial Day Flag Garden on Boston Common. Each of the 37,000+ flags planted at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument will represent every brave Massachusetts Service Member who gave their lives defending our country since the Revolutionary War.

May is #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth. 💚
One way to support world-class mental health care for Veterans, Service Members, Military Families and Families of the Fallen this month is by registering for our most critical annual fundraiser — the 2026 Run to Home Base. Thanks to a Grateful Nation, we raised over $3.6 million towards our mission to heal the invisible wounds of war last year. Help us surpass that record at #RTHB2026!

We especially thank military-connected mothers, both in uniform and at home, for their selfless service and sacrifice for our nation.

🦉 Last weekend, our New England Adventure Series participants had a fantastic time exploring @massaudubonipswichriver.
After enjoying a delicious lunch from Topsfield House of Pizza, they headed out on a guided hike focused on wetland wildlife.
Along the way, they were lucky enough to spot a turtle and even a Great Horned Owl — an unforgettable experience for all involved!

Tommy, a Navy Veteran and proud Home Base participant, is not only participating in #RTHB2026 this July, but also will ride his motorcycle across the country — from Dallas to Boston — raising awareness along the way. 🏍️ #WhoDoYouRunFor

"My involvement with Home Base began as a very simple sign up for an activity that probably got twice as many volunteers as needed! Although we finished our job quickly, the staff and other volunteers I met that evening were clearly invested and proud of the work they were doing, and this is what kept me coming back. In fact, my conversations with staff members that evening is what led me to conduct our first cooking class in February...
"Doing things like making Valentine’s Day cards or raising funds for Home Base is a bonus, because I get to meet so many other volunteers who enjoy giving back as much as I do. Any chance I get to make a difference in a veterans’ life is a win for each of us."

Home Base thanks @johnhancock, a longstanding partner of our program, for dedicating time each year to support our mission.
Their always-dependable volunteers come from across many departments, especially their MiLE Colleague Network, and are always there to lend a helping hand at our signature events — including the Memorial Day Flag Garden, Run to Home Base and Helping Veterans Heal Televent — and many other community events that pop up throughout the year.
We can always count on our friends at John Hancock to make an impact and look forward to many more years of outstanding partnership with them!

Army Veteran Robert S. Pettigrew, Jr., spent his final Veterans Day volunteering for Home Base at the @nhlbruins’ 2025 Military Appreciation Night. He challenged himself and his daughter, Vanessa, to finish the event as Top 3 fundraisers. They succeeded with flying colors, raising over $30,000 to support Bob's fellow Veterans.
The night culminated with the dynamic duo reminiscing about his days as a proud hockey girl dad, driving her to and from all of her practices and games. Sadly, less than a month later, Bob suddenly passed away at the age of 83.
