how can I explain? I need you here and not here too!

‘Do I pass? As what? To where?’
Frey Kwa Hawking (@absentobject ) spends the weekend at Liminalities – Germany’s trans visibility festival - watching performers pour themselves over clay, get pinned under glass, wrestle with blood, and make love to the earth.
Today’s bonus post explores the trans performances brought together for Liminalities at Kampnagel (@kampnagel_hamburg) in Hamburg by Lucien Lambertz (@luce_lambertz ), including:
Simone Aughterlony’s Hand Job

Introducing our fourth and final panellist for the Established Dramaturgs Award 2026 judging panel...
🙌 FREY KWA-HAWKING
Bio:
Frey is a London-based dramaturg and theatre critic who writes for @exeunt_magazine, @thestageuk, and @whatsonstage. He has previously worked for the @unicorn_theatre, @youngvictheatre, and the @royalcourttheatre.
He was also a writer and dramaturg on @papergangtheatre Asian Pirate Musical, a queer science-fiction musical that had a concert performance at the @thepleasance in 2024.
Frey has also worked with and read scripts for organisations including the @bushtheatre, The Upsetters, Exit Pursued by Panda, 45North, and @womensprize_forplaywriting. He loves rehearsal rooms, new writing (especially queer work), and theatre that scares him or shakes his assumptions - formally as much as politically. He is trans, Malaysian-Chinese, occasionally quite angry, and always orders xiao long bao.
🗓 🏆 Nominations for the Established Dramaturg Award open on Monday 26th January @ 12 noon (GMT)

🚨 URGENT: SAVE GOLDSMITH’S DRAMATURGY MA 🚨
Goldsmiths has suspended applications to its flagship MA in Dramaturgy & Writing for Performance, putting this groundbreaking course at serious risk.
For 25 years, this programme has shaped the future of theatre:
✨ National Theatre, Almeida & Paines Plough writers
🏆 Olivier & Bruntwood winners
🎧 Leading audio creators
🎭 Producers, literary managers, academics
Its impact is everywhere. Losing it would be a massive cultural loss and another huge blow to an already embattled field.
We need your voice right now.
Dramaturgs' Network member David Lane (Visiting Lecturer at Goldsmiths and Head of Drama Writing at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School), has issued an open letter to Goldsmiths’ interim Vice-Chancellor - and we need as many signatures as possible to show what’s at stake.
✍️ SIGN the open letter by Monday 15 December

If you trained on the course, taught or collaborated with its graduates, or simply believe in protecting essential creative training, please add your name.
Let’s make sure Goldsmiths hears us.
⏰ Letter goes to leadership Tuesday 16 December at midday.

About a month ago, with support from @newdiorama and @aceagrams, we spent some time R&Ding a new show, DOGGY, about Grindr hookups, mercenaries and lethal autonomous weapon systems. These are some photos from that time (courtesy of @jemimayong). It's incredibly exciting to be working on new work, and work that is company made and led, and (hopefully) with a little bit of formal risk and political radicalism to it. Also, trangendor. Gay homosexual trangendor art.
