What do you think of when you think of a circular economy?

We work with businesses every day that want to become more circular - and that means so many different things. For some businesses it means finding technologies to reuse plastics, for others it means increasing the amount of upcycling and recycled product they use in the office.

Every day looks different for us, but we always finish with the same goal: making the most of what we already have.

From Taupō to Christchurch, it’s been a big couple of weeks for our Sustainable Event Waste Management team on the ground at the @supercarschampionship NZ Double Header 🏁♻️

Our Australian and New Zealand crews worked side by side across both weekends, managing multiple waste streams, supporting vendors, and keeping systems running under pressure in a live event environment.

Not without its challenges. Severe weather saw a full day of racing in Taupō cancelled, but the team reset quickly and came back strong for an epic second weekend in Christchurch.

A huge effort from everyone involved. Long days, tough conditions, and a lot happening behind the scenes to keep materials in play.

Proud of the team on this one – looking forward to seeing the final results roll in.

Australia’s favourite cooking competition is back, and once again every challenge is supported by smarter food waste solutions behind the scenes.

Since 2016, the @masterchefau team has been transforming food scraps into compost using our commercial composter. From raw ingredients to cooked leftovers, food is recovered and kept in circulation instead of going to landfill.

Everything that can be recovered is returned to the system, helping close the loop in one of Australia’s most iconic kitchens.

What was once a sustainability initiative is now becoming a regulated requirement.

FOGO requirements are expanding across Australia, with NSW leading the shift. For many organisations, this isn’t just about adding a green bin – it’s a change to operations, reporting, and how waste is managed on site.

From new collection systems to emerging on-site solutions, the way organisations handle organics is evolving quickly.

The question isn’t whether this is coming – it’s whether your business is ready for it.

Read more in our latest blog:Understanding FOGO: What Your Business Needs to Know (link in bio).

At the recent @ballaratbegoniafestival with @cityofballarat, our sustainable event waste management team collected an incredible 3,456 bottles and cans, and recycled them through @cdsvic.

Even better? Every eligible container collected at the Ballarat Begonia Festival, in partnership with Closed Loop, helped raise $345.60 to go towards the @ballarattramwaymuseum, supporting their historical tram restoration projects 🚋

Proof that small actions at events can create lasting environmental and community outcomes.

What does 150kg of food waste a day actually look like?

At the @sheratongrandportdouglas, that was the starting point.

Instead of sending it to landfill, they rethought the system.

With on-site composting, they achieved:
• 53.81% reduction in food waste to landfill
• 41% reduction in waste costs

And that waste? It now feeds their on-site gardens.

This is the shift most organisations miss – food waste isn’t just a disposal problem, it’s an operational opportunity.

Want to see what that could look like for your site? Get in touch.

Across April, our Australian and New Zealand sustainable event waste management teams will be joining forces in New Zealand to support event sustainability at the @supercarschampionship 2026 ITM NZ Double Header in Taupō and Christchurch, as well as @ultranewzealand in Wellington.

Then our Australian site team will finish the month off back on home soil at the @ballaratmarathon in Victoria.

What a week!

Our team has just wrapped up five full days on the ground at the @melbflowershow, with bump out still in full swing.

From sunshine to sudden downpours, Melbourne delivered everything – but it didn’t slow the operation. Across the Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens, our Sustainable Event Waste Management team kept the event running clean while hand-sorting waste and capturing materials across multiple streams.

Events like this aren’t just about collection; they’re about design. From bin placement and signage to vendor packaging and on-the-ground education, every element plays a role in what actually gets recovered.

Because diversion doesn’t happen by accident.

We’re proud to have partnered with MIFGS since 2022, working together each year to deliver a more circular event.

A big thank you to the MIFGS team, and to everyone who stopped for a chat with us along the way.

“The installation of the composter was transformational for our operations.”

@ydiscoverycamps first installed a Closed Loop composter in 2015.

Since then, the program has grown across their network – helping camps reduce waste, cut costs and turn food scraps into a useful resource.

Today the impact is significant:

- 55,000 meals produced each year across their camps
- Enough waste reduction to remove an additional skip bin
- 5 composters now operating across the network
- Around 720kg of food waste composted every week

On-site composting is not just a sustainability initiative.

When implemented well, it becomes part of the daily operation - reducing waste volumes, lowering disposal costs and supporting environmental education for campers.
