Lazy Thinking
Not-for-profit music venue, label & sync agency supporting independent Australian artists.

Something very exciting we’ve quietly been working on for a while now.
We’re extremely proud to announce the launch of the Lazy Thinking Residency, a new ongoing program designed to provide meaningful, practical and multifaceted support to independent musical artists at every stage of their creative life.
Open to artists from Sydney/Eora, across Australia and overseas, the residency is built around something we care deeply about at Lazy Thinking: giving artists actual space, time, resources, support and community to meaningfully develop their work.
Selected artists will receive a 2–3 week residency including access to:
• Accommodation a few doors down from the venue in a modern apartment featuring an in-house music studio, with access to studio monitors, synthesizers, MIDI controllers, keyboards, with additional instruments, pedals and recording equipment available on request
• An additional retreat property on the NSW South Coast for part of the residency
• A $300 per week artist stipend to support the residency period
• Use of the venue as an additional rehearsal and development space
• A residency performance at Lazy Thinking
• A studio session with an acclaimed producer/engineer at a nearby studio space
The residency is open to both established and new/emerging artists, and we strongly encourage ambitious-minded artists at every stage of their creative life to apply, including artists only just starting out.
Applications are now open.

Today we’re launching Lazy Thinking Sync. Here’s why and what that means:
Artists need to get paid. Touring’s unpredictable and inconsistent, and streaming is officially now a not terribly funny joke. Sync (film/TV/media) is one of the few things that can actually help artists pay bills. There is more media content being produced right now than at any other moment in history.
At the same time, music supervisors want new and exciting music — not the same five tracks everyone uses. They just don’t have a clear place to find it. There’s also a real multi-agency government pushto get more Australian artists into sync.
With Lazy Thinking Sync, we’re going to pull all of these things together. We’ve carefully built a library of great independent and emerging artists, and we’ll be updating it weekly. It’s the kind of music we program every week at the venue, and we’ll be working super hard to get it heard and in front of the right people.
Less average music in sync. More brilliant Australian artists getting paid earlier in their careers. It will also help us cover the cost of our core not-for-profit activities that run at a loss, like operating the venue.
If you want a taste of what we’re doing, have a listen to our sampler and check out the new sync page.
If you’re an artist and want to be considered for sync, or you work in film, TV or media and need music, hit us up.
Links to all in bio.
Big love to the folks at @musicnsw and @soundnsw for continuing to push conversations around sustainable futures for Australian artists.

Good things happen last minute!
Genre-bending slide guitarist @danmusilmusic brings his new EP to Sydney, folk-rock singer-songwriter @knightizz previews her new EP before touring the UK/Europe, and multi-instrumentalist & songwriter @jhanziallan ventures down from the Hunter for a special afternoon of original music at @lazythinking__ in Dulwich Hill.
Sunday May 24th. 380 New Canterbury Rd, Dulwich Hill NSW
Doors Open 2pm. Music from 3pm.
Tickets $15 at the door (no-one turned away).
Dan Musil plays slide guitar like no-one else, weaving otherworldly musical journeys and with incisive songwriting. Dan’s new EP journeys to where Irish tunes emerge from stomping blues, where eucalyptus-infused musical meditations meet driving groove & flowing phrase - the provocative and the calming.
Isobel Knight writes and plays songs where the venn diagram circles of Julia Jacklin and Bruce Springsteen cross over. Armed with her acoustic guitar and a story-telling instinct, she’s a folk singer with an old soul and a quick sense of humour. Her new EP “Off The Floor” is out May 22. Sneak a preview at her last show in Sydney before she tours the UK/Europe.
Jhana Allan is a multi-instrumentalist, and folk-rock singer songwriter, amongst many other hats she has worn throughout her long music career. She has supported Australian artists such as Frente, Fred Smith, Lucie Thorne and The Maes. In 2023 she recorded her sophomore album ‘Fake Paradise’ in Nashville, produced by her mentor, Americana artist Rachel Baiman, with 5 time Grammy award winning engineer Sean Sullivan (Margo Price, Andrew Marlin, Molly Tuttle).
A jam packed afternoon of original live music.
Held on Eora Country - always was, always will be.

Anon woke up at his desk with a start. Hours of datahoarding from Soulseek had clearly taken its toll on him, and he jabbed a key to wake his trusty PC, and its blue glow stuttered to life, stinging his eyes. Terminal was open. He hadn’t opened terminal.
“What the fuck..” he muttered to himself. Before he could react, his speakers began to blare with a bitcrushed kick, and the little black window filled with unfamiliar, garbled text:
