BRUBBLE, video and light sculpture, 2024
Over forty smartphones form a vertical structure reminiscent of a streaming farm. The inward-facing screens show videos from social networks, reflecting the omnipresent nature and continuous flow of digital content. The installation shifts into a system status at regular intervals: the screens blink and the videos update, visually translating the mechanisms of constant background updates and invisible data consumption in social media. The sculpture highlights the vast amounts of data produced, consumed, and processed daily in massive data centers.

Manja Ebert draws attention to the ecological footprint of our media usage, while critically examining the „Content Culture“ of social platforms. This culture demands endless production and sharing of new content. In this system, clicks and views become currency, where quantity outweighs quality, reducing the meaning of content to absurdity.

The exhibition „This Is Not a Fact“ brings artistic statements together that may at first appear incompatible, the exhibition is built on contrasts between the rigidity of technological systems and the vulnerability of the body, between the endless digital flow and the silence of personal transformation, between simulation and material pain.

‘Perspectives’ is a new curated exhibition format that will be part of the festival for the first time this year. At five locations in Neu­kölln, eight young curators will present exciting positions on this year’s festival theme. These up­ and­ coming talents each interpret the theme in their own way, open­ing up a variety of powerful posi­tions. The perspectives are more than just exhibitions: They create spaces for new Perspectives, surprising ruptures and an intense examination of the interface between perception and reality. The result is a lively exchange between artists, curators and vis­itors. At the heart of the festival is the promotion of a new genera­tion of curators from a variety of backgrounds who, together with 35 artists, will explore individual approaches to the festival theme.

OWE ME EVERYTHING zeigt das komplexe Beziehungsgeflecht zwischen Konsum, Produktion und Datenerhebung in sozialen Netzwerken. Eberts Werke reflektieren, wie globale Tech-Giganten wie Google und Meta von den alltäglichen Interaktionen der Nutzer profitieren und dabei eine allgegenwärtige Überwachung betreiben. Gleichzeitig hinterfragt die Künstlerin, wie sich das Zusammenspiel von Selbstdarstellung, Technologie und Überwachung auf unser psychologisches und soziales Leben auswirkt.
