WORKING CLASS PROJECTS
We create and support working class-led projects that offer real opportunities for working class creatives — from exhibitions and residencies to workshops, talks, and industry collabs.
By partnering with orgs across the UK, we provide access to space, resources, and platforms that elevate working class voices and challenge classism in the arts.
Every project is a step toward a more equitable creative industry — one where access, recognition, and opportunity aren’t tied to privilege.
📢 Want to collaborate or support our work?

👋 Hello! It’s been 5 years since we started Working Class Creatives — and a lot has changed. So we thought it was time to reintroduce ourselves.
WCC was founded in 2021 by Seren Metcalfe and Chanelle Windas, two working class artists navigating the creative world without connections or privilege. What started as a DIY response to those barriers has grown into a nationwide, community-led platform — built by and for working class creatives.
We’ve never received core funding. WCC is run on love, time, and solidarity — mostly volunteered by us and our brilliant members and advisors.
Want to know more about what we do, who’s involved, or how you can support us?

Every share, donation, and bit of belief keeps us going. Thank you 💛

Working-class creatives face real barriers in the accessing the arts : from access to education, lack of studio spaces, no networks in the industry and fewer opportunities for connection.
Our Members Map was made so you can find peers nearby to share skills, collaborate, and continue building the work our supportive community, in person.
Our directors are based in Hull and London, and operate across the UK with a strong presence in both the North and South, hosting events, exhibitions, and residencies for our members.
While our network is global, our focus over the past 5 years has been on connecting and empowering working-class creatives locally and nationally. Though we try to host online regularly too.
Explore the full map on our website where you can sign up as a member, or as a supporter too. We heard 2026 is the year to be a part of community that puts working-class creatives at the forefront. 👀🤝

For international women’s day, we wanted to highlight some working class women across the U.K. who have inspired us to continue creating, resource sharing, community building and representing the creativity us working class folk have.
Standing up to patriarchy is a big ask in a small art world, especially when you have limited time, money, resources and networks. While women make up 66%–70% of art students, they are underrepresented in professional careers and senior positions. So continue, showing up, and speaking up 💥
And remember, if you have skills to share, networks to offer, leads in the art world - you can sign up as a supporter on our website to help us build a fairer future for all.
Lots of love !

DIY-ISM is all about building community, creating opportunities and making things happen together.
What started as a need for connection has grown into a space where working-class creatives can share skills, ideas and conversations around access to the arts. Through this we discovered a love for curation and producing events for our members. And we’ve been lucky to collaborate with some incredible people along the way.
Our DIY-ISM guide is here to help others self organise and bring their ideas to life. These are just some highlights from our zine, which we take to workshops.
The full Manifesto is available on our shop and if you’d like a badge making or screen printing workshop drop us an email!!

⭐ Check out some of the incredible events we’ve had the pleasure of working on over the years! ⭐
We’ve been so lucky to collaborate with amazing partners and host workshops, talks, and exhibitions across the UK supporting working-class creatives and making art accessible to all. From our early days as two art students searching for a community, to now supporting over 2000 creatives, it’s been an incredible journey.
Thank you to all our collaborators for helping make this possible!
If you would like to work with us on an event our inbox is always open ✉️

Hopping on this trend to take the opportunity to introduce our small team (of two).
We most often share the labour that comes in at WCC, leaning into eachothers skillsets, and picking up on tasks when the other has little time. Being volunteer led has its challenges but we continue to deliver with support from partners, merch sales,a big load of determination and a wonderful board of advisors whom gently guide us through.
Thanks for your continued support. Stay iconic💋

‘Over the past five years of Working Class Creatives, it has been a joy to follow the journeys of our members, both longstanding and new. Watching their practices evolve and encountering their work in exhibitions across the U.K. has been a real privilege. These sculptors bring forward vital narratives and histories that are too often overlooked within the art world through incredibly considered and insightful works, reminding us why contemporary art is important to see, and support. Just imagine a show with these works in 💭👀’
