There’s a lot of hope happening across Britain right now. You just need to look for it.

This Week of Hope, more than 1,000 hopeful events and activities have happened across cities, towns and villages in the UK. Communities have been coming together, showing up and making the world better for all of us.

We made a film about it so you can see for yourself. Watch it, share it, show that hope can be louder than hate. 🧡

Sometimes, you can lose community when you leave the military - and that loss can be profound. But last week @damekellyholmes met @karen_tvhs_brinkman from @eastkentmind - founder of the Thanet Veterans Group - and she reminded us all what’s possible when someone steps up to bring people together.

Women from different military backgrounds, different ages, different life journeys - all finding their community, their voices and their belonging in the space Karen has created. People like her are what our communities are built on, quietly making life a little lighter, a little less lonely, and a little more connected for the people around them. Across the UK right now, people are quietly doing extraordinary things for one another - for their neighbours, their communities, total strangers - choosing hope over hate.

For one week this May (13–20th), we’re bringing hope into the open. Because hope is often quiet - it doesn’t make headlines. But it’s right outside our doors. It’s what brings us together.

As part of @1mactsofhope Week of Hope, a group of children created this song and artwork all about hope during one of our workshops in an asylum hotel.

Every day, the children we work with give us hope. And this past week, it has been wonderful to be involved in a huge UK-wide movement of thousands of people showing up and standing together in small and big ways to show that hope happens here, there and everywhere, every single day.

Together, we showed that hope can be louder than hate. 💜💚

From one small message of hope to a tree filled with colourful wishes for the world.

At Global Cooperation House, hearts came together through the beautiful Hope Tree initiative as part of A Million Acts of Hope — a nationwide movement spreading kindness, care and connection across the UK.

It was touching to witness how one message inspired another, and soon the entire tree blossomed with uplifting thoughts, prayers and good wishes for humanity. 💚

Every note carried a reminder that hope grows when we share it.
Every message became a light for someone else.

Together, let us continue creating a world filled with compassion, unity and peace.

Seeing these incredible individuals through the eyes of people who were genuinely moved by them made our hearts full.

@simonpegg met Kiely, a teaching assistant at St Luke’s in Redbourn, who has gone from volunteer to an indispensable part of her school community - supporting children with learning disabilities. @magicbreakfast_uk

@damekellyholmes met Karen from @eastkentmind , founder of the Thanet Veterans Group - a space where women from different military backgrounds and life journeys are finding community, voice and belonging.

@doctoramirkhan visited a community garden run by young people at risk — getting outdoors, learning new skills, and building something beautiful together with support from @thewildlifetrusts

@josierones met Floyd, a youth worker at @caxton_youthclub , who’s quietly helping young people with learning disabilities and autism build the skills and confidence to go out and thrive.

Thank you for shining a light on these amazing stories. It’s what this campaign is all about - the quiet heroes, the everyday acts of courage, and the belief that kindness, multiplied, can change the world.

✨ One million acts of hope! ✨

We are honoured to be part of a #MillionActsOfHope, celebrating the incredible acts of kindness people are doing for their communities in Bristol and across the country 💛

Hope happens every week at our Welcome Centre where we are joined by 150+ members, volunteers and service users for community, games, chats and delicious food.

Our doors are open for people seeking asylum to come along for a hot meal, asylum casework advice, ESOL classes and volunteering opportunities. We are lucky to be joined by wonderful organisations each Monday, and this week was @hwb.bristol - always a very popular table 🌿🍵💚

Easton Family Centre, where we are based, is also home to our sweet friends at @rwobristol, @bridgesforcommunities
& @baraka.communitycafe who are doing amazing things, so hope literally happens here every day.

“With everything going on recently in this country and the current climate, there are a lot of people who just want to do something, and hosting enables you to make it clear to people who have come from terrible situations that they are safe and in a home that is welcoming.

“When you see people in sleeping bags huddled in doorways it’s only natural to want to help but there’s a question about how you go about doing it. What Refugees at Home do is make it possible to respond in the way you instinctively want to when you see people in need – and it’s a privilege to be a part of it.”

Huw is the Director of Education at the @dioceseofsheffield and over the last few years, he and his wife have hosted thirteen guests with us.

As the #millionactsofhope campaign comes to a close, we’ve been inspired by the stories we’ve seen from people across the country making the UK a more positive place to live, and we couldn’t be prouder to have hosts like Huw among them.

An act of hope is often about creating a safe environment where a young person feels supported enough to face their fears.

During a recent project in Romania, Ash met a teenager who was struggling heavily with his confidence.

He was hanging around our tightwire, wanting to try but too scared to start. The team gently encouraged him to take just one single step. He wobbled, tried again, and by the fourth day of free play, he was eagerly lining up to be the first person on the wire.

Play empowers young people to realise their own strength. Hope is having someone support you to try the very thing that scares you.
