This week I was named one of Zoom’s Top 50 Solopreneurs in America, selected from nearly 3,000 applicants across 48 states.

I don’t think the younger version of me could have imagined this moment.

There was a time when I was so shy that I relied on my earrings to start conversations for me. Compliments turned into confidence and somehow, those tiny moments helped me keep walking into larger rooms.

Looking back now, I realize that was probably the beginning of MAUJH long before the brand itself existed.

This recognition feels truly special. MAUJH was never built in the traditional way. No big team. No investors. No fashion industry background. Just me, a solopreneur relying on instinct, creativity, risk-taking, late nights, pop-ups, artisan calls across time zones, questionable spreadsheet skills, and occasional moments of packing orders at 1am questioning my life choices.

Over the years, MAUJH became so much bigger than jewelry for me. It's become a way to celebrate self-expression, honor heritage craftsmanship, create community, and meet women who stop by a pop-up and somehow leave feeling a little more like themselves.

This recognition belongs to every person who's cheered for us, shopped with us, shared the brand with a friend, wore MAUJH to something meaningful, DM'ed me, or told me, “I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

I’m incredibly honored to share that I’ve been selected as one of the inaugural recipients of the Zoom Solopreneur 50 — chosen from over 3,000 applicants across 48 states and 15 different industries.

As a Black female founder, celebrity makeup artist, educator, and creator building multiple brands and platforms with a lean team and relentless vision, this recognition means so much more than a title. It’s validation that purpose-driven entrepreneurship, creativity, innovation, resilience, and impact matter.

The Zoom Solopreneur 50 was created to spotlight the future of independent business builders — entrepreneurs proving that one person with vision, technology, strategy, and consistency can create massive influence and real economic impact. Zoom describes this as recognizing the “solo trailblazers defining the future of work,” and I’m deeply grateful to be included in that conversation. (Zoom)

What makes this honor especially meaningful is that this program is not just recognition — it includes national visibility across Zoom’s platforms and media ecosystem, access to mentorship and a powerful network of innovators, collaboration opportunities, business growth resources, and eligibility for a share of $150,000 in grant funding awarded to the Top 5 honorees. For years, I’ve built through faith, grit, creativity, reinvention, and purpose — from Harlem to Hollywood to entrepreneurship. To be recognized nationally among some of the most innovative solopreneurs in America is a reminder that staying committed to your vision matters, even when you’re building brick by brick behind the scenes.

“Mom, you should apply for this Zoom Solopreneur grant.”

Me: “I don’t think I’d win. I never win anything… and I don’t even have time.”

My daughter replied:

“You are the true story of a solopreneur. You’ve achieved so much, inspired so many women around the world, started from zero with no English and no papers, and built all of this by yourself. You work so hard and stay so consistent. I’m your daughter, but I know people who don’t even know you would feel inspired by your story too. The true spirit of a business woman.”

Those words touched the deepest part of my heart. I cried then… and I still do when I remember them.

In that moment, hearing my daughter say those things about me already made me feel like a winner.

Today, I’m deeply humbled, honored, and grateful that Zoom saw something special in my story too.

This recognition makes me feel grateful, motivated, and empowered.

And I want to say this to anyone building something quietly behind the scenes:

Keep going.

No matter how small you think you are right now, your dreams are possible too.

Being a solopreneur used to feel lonely and limiting. But today, through technology, communication, and AI, one person can truly build, expand, and improve a business in ways that were once impossible.

This past year my business has transformed because of these tools and I truly believe so many more women around the world can do the same.
