So in an effort to “unstuck” myself from posting here I did what any self respecting freelancer with no workmates to bounce ideas off would do and asked my old mate Chat GPT what should I post. My robot told me I should post something with lighter tones, greys and blues and sage greens and overcast skies perhaps. I knew just the thing- a shoot that I absolutely loved working on but never got around to posting- Lifestyle imagery for Cold Snap Wines and @in2thewild.aus promotion.

Storytime! I met @ka.mo.artist when we were picking our Christmas tree up at @montrosechristmastreefarm a couple of years ago. Her husband approached mine to come take a photo of them in front of the tree they had picked out. Ben glanced sideways at me knowing I had my “big” camera on me but I thought I’d let him take one for the team (he does take a better iPhone photo than me any day- not even mad about it). He returned a few minutes later, frustrated with the backlight, and sent me over there to “have a go”. I went to their tree and saw the most gorgeous little family patiently waiting for a photo. Let’s just say that they were much happier with the edited JPEG I emailed them from the carpark 😂.

Little did I know the lady I had just photographed in front of her tree was an incredible local artist that had been featured in one of my favourite stores @jumbledonline and that a few months later @dangerousfemales would contact me to shoot their Mother’s Day t-shirt collaboration with her. The universe! She works hard!

This is that cute little family hanging out in a park for that shoot with the most beautifully styled picnic from @ruby_and_james fighting over cake by @torte_by_mirjana with florals by @thepetaledition. Let me know if you'd like to see more of this shoot.

@ka.mo.artist has just returned from a trip to Western Australia where she painted her little heart out capturing her travels on canvas. The collection goes live on Sunday 7pm- fight you for one!

Most of my work life is about control and knowing what the outcome will look like (clients tend to like that) I’m constantly looking for ways to bring that element of surprise and wonder to my creative work and more and more I’m returning to analogue ways of creating; letting go of perfection and leaning into the happy accidents. So this week I went and had some fun at an intro to Risograph Printing at @treepapergallery and I’m addicted! A cross between screen printing and a xerox it was fun to think about how my photos would look printed this way. Scroll across to see how cool the metallic ink looks in person.

A couple of prints I made during the workshop- A old Landrover in Applecross, Scotland. And The Hazards Mountain range in Coles Bay Tasmania.

Flight patterns. The incredible colours of Lake MacDonnell in South Australia.

As a little kid I dreamt of being a bird, I drew them, rescued them, raised them and was fascinated by them and I will never tire of seeing the world through their eyes (ironically Im scared every time I get in a plane though, go figure) #austtraveller

Shot and shelved. A quiet moment between takes for @goldieandace on a shoot way back in 2021 at @nationaltrustvic Mulberry Hill, the house of Daryl and Joan Lindsay – where Picnic at Hanging Rock was written (no big deal). So often my favourite shots are the ones that weren’t planned. As I dig through the hard drives to build my new website I am enjoying finding these forgotten gems.

Part 2: The reds 🍷 more favorites from the archives of documenting vintage at @robdolanwine and @oakridgewines over the last few years. A photographers dream really- the color, the chaos and the early morning starts.

Tassie you’ve done it again. Grateful for 36 hours to once again experience the haunting beauty and ever changing light of the Tasmanian Wilderness, this time at @pumphousepoint on assignment for @elopeaustralia.

Babbington Park, you ridiculously pretty thing. All rolling hills, old gums, furry friends, a cut flower patch to die for and that “should I quit my life and move to the country” kind of charm. I’m going to peel the family away from NBA highlights for a second tonight to watch them on @bhgaus .

Thanks to @leantimms for hosting her workshop at this dreamy slice of Victoria. @babbingtonpark you sneaky little stunner, I had no idea you existed and now I’m smitten.

Why would I do a photography workshop? I was asked this many times in the lead up and over the course of the 2 day workshop at @babbingtonpark with the incredible @leantimms . No I didnt need to know which buttons to press or that my subject would be blurry at 1/20 of a second and to be honest I didn’t even know what I would learn, I just knew I had to go.

The last 2 years I came to feel unworthy and undervalued in many ways, some obvious, some subtle and some I convinced myself of. Pop in some peri hormonal shifts and those voices got LOUD. I stopped creating, I stopped sharing and I stopped trusting myself. But in the two days I spent with Lean, Annie, Susan, Steph and 16 other women- all carrying their own problems to solve and self doubts- I watched them teach, cook, share, create with such heart* and generosity that they shifted something in me that I didn’t think could be shifted. In what will come as no surprise to anyone, I got a bit teary saying goodbye to Lean and even in the car on the way home as those voices seemed to fade. Now despite family, friends, some beautiful clients and psychs over the last couple years convincing me of my worth as an artist, sometimes it really does need to come from someone you admire, someone who doesn’t even know you (and maybe someone you have stalked on instagram for years).

If you need to learn any of the above, including the buttons on your camera (which she teaches so incredibly well!) then you too need to spend a couple of days with Lean and the incredible people she surrounds herself with. X

*a phrase most definitely ruined by Masterchef
