A few months ago, the lovely team at @cinemasocietyhtx asked Sleepover to host a workshop about crafting short films and empathetic storytelling in an independent framework. We were so honored to be asked — our brains were spinning thinking about how we could create a resource different from what one could look up on Google or YouTube.

What spurred from that was FROM DREAM TO SCREEN — a two-hour workshop where we recounted our early careers from film school, up to the processes behind our award-winning shorts, and asked attendees to think inward on how they could best develop their artistic practices and collaborative spaces. Thank you to Daniel Sanchez Chicaguala, who carried this with dreaminess, sensitivity, and soul after I told him I wanted to cast him because he gave me sad clown vibes. And thank you to anyone who’s ever left a little something in their library book 🍊 Still grossed out about that orange peel 😇

Earlier this month, BOOKMARKS came back from @aspenfilm Shortsfest with the Jury Award for Short Short 📚🥰 And not only that—the film is now Oscar® qualified 😇 Still swooning at the jury’s citation:

“Several love letters, an orange peel, an unstamped passport — these are the ephemera that provide proof of life in this 3-minute short. The jury was struck by the simple poignancy of this remarkable film, which moved us with its exploration of things forgotten and found.”

Thank you to our fellow filmmakers, the programmers, festival staff, and the jury for a magical time in the mountains. And our sincerest thanks and apologies to @ceramicsbychase for engraving our full title onto our award plate, even though we blame @whiskeydynamite for that one 😬
