Last week, Tourism New Westminster was proud to be part of a three-day FAM tour alongside incredible destination partners from across British Columbia, bringing together members of the Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC) to experience BC’s growing film tourism scene from reel to real.

From the Sea to Sky to the Fraser Valley, guests explored iconic filming locations and cinematic experiences throughout the province, including a stop right here in New Westminster, one of BC’s most versatile filming destinations.

During their visit, guests stepped into the world of film and television with a guided Cineventure experience through downtown New Westminster, discovering locations featured in productions such as IT, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Flash, The Good Doctor, Godzilla, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Hallmark favourites, and many more. 🎥🍿

One of the highlights? A visit from the “New Westmonster” himself! Pennywise from Stephen King’s IT, who guided guests through some of the city’s most recognizable filming locations. 🤡🎈

From historic theatres and waterfront scenes to streets that have doubled as cities around the world, New Westminster continues to shine as a must-visit destination for film lovers.

This collaboration showcased the power of destinations working together to tell BC’s story through film tourism, creating unforgettable experiences for visitors while spotlighting the incredible diversity of our province.

Dreamy doesn’t even begin to describe our visit to @tuscanfarmgardens in Abbotsford, British Columbia. 💜🌿✨

As part of our hosted @cineventure_ca travel writers itinerary, we stepped into a place that felt straight out of a romantic movie scene — which makes sense because it actually has been. Featured in more than 20 film and television productions, including Hallmark favourites and Virgin River, this enchanting farm has become one of BC’s most picturesque filming locations. 🎬

Although the lavender fields were still waiting to bloom, the cascading wisteria welcomed us beautifully. Owner Jodi Warkentin greeted us with lavender lemonade and delicious lavender cookies — the kind of thoughtful hospitality that instantly makes you feel at home. 💜🍋🌿

Film crews don’t choose locations by accident. 🎬🎥

The Sea to Sky Gondola works so well on screen because it gives you a lot in one stop:

1. Big mountain views
2. Howe Sound below
3. Forest trails
4. Shannon Falls nearby
5. The Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge
6. Easy access from Vancouver
7. That “how are we still this close to the city?” feeling

And those are the same reasons it works so well as a day trip from Vancouver or a stop on the way to Squamish or Whistler.

On the @cineventure_ca filming locations tour, I learned that scenes from Tracker, Virgin River, Percy Jackson, Eternity, and more were filmed around Sea to Sky Gondola.

For a film crew, it means several strong location looks without travelling all day.

For the rest of us, it means a soft adventure that doesn’t require a massive hike or a packed schedule.

You can:

1. Take the gondola up
2. Walk one of the easier trails
3. Cross the suspension bridge
4. Look out over Howe Sound
5. Spot Shannon Falls from above
6. Bring your dog
7. Come back in winter for snowshoeing or tubing

It’s cinematic, yes.

But it’s also calm, scenic, and surprisingly easy to fit into a slower Sea to Sky Highway day.

Our @cineventure_ca tour as part of a post @travelmediaca FAM Tour made a delicious stop at @thewatershedgrill — better known to @virginriverseries fans as the exterior of Jack’s Bar & Grill from the hit @netflixca series! 🍔🎬

Tucked along the Squamish River in beautiful Brackendale, this lively spot serves up fantastic food, mountain views, and a little movie magic. Even more memorable? While we were there, a tiny plane flew overhead pulling a marriage proposal banner for another guest. (Spoiler alert: Kim said yes! 💍✈️) Safe to say we weren’t the only Virgin River fans soaking it all in.

One fun fact for fellow fans: while the exterior and surrounding river views are filmed here, the interior bar scenes are actually shot on a soundstage in Vancouver. But the iconic riverside setting you recognize from the show is very real — and absolutely worth experiencing in person. 

If you’re road-tripping the Sea to Sky Highway, this is definitely a must-stop for lunch, drinks, and a little behind-the-scenes TV magic.
