Class selection of shorts at the June 2025 edition of Filmed Up at HOME last night.

Congrats @benxhanley and the cast and crew on winning the audience award for The Exception 👏👏👏

Especially Ben who wore multiple hats in this project including writer, director, lead actor, producer, editor (and other hats I’m probably not even aware of). Delighted for you Ben!

I played a small part in this film as sound designer, and we did a 5.1 mix in the Avid S6 suite at Spirit Studios. Composer Darren Sng’s score sounded incredible in Cinema 1 @homemcr 🎶

It was also lovely to meet / catch up with some film folks in the bar afterwards!

A selection of some recent work in narrative / scripted film and TV. For some reason, my last couple of reels dropped in May and this year is no different.

My brief to myself was to make something in the style of a trailer and keep it under two minutes. I’ll let you be the judge of whether I succeeded or not 😄

Went for a gorgeous and rejuvenating walk in and around Hebden Bridge at the weekend.

On the road back from Hardcastle Crags we encountered a field of sheep, where a pheasant came through and strutted around like he was boss. 

Every now and then he would raise himself up, call and flutter his wings, presumably staking out his territory.

Other pheasants could be heard calling from the woods and fields nearby.

I managed to get a reasonably close recording of the call, and he can just be made out near the centre of the picture 👀

Back in this beautiful space tomorrow 4-9pm for Easy Does It Sundays @therefugemcr. Keeping it nice and soulful to round off the weekend - boogie, disco, funk and much more 🎶

Another great edition of Manchester Film Festival. Feels like it is maturing and improving every year.

As usual, I didn’t get to watch anywhere near as much as I wanted to, but saw two brilliant NW Shorts programs, Student Shorts and some fascinating industry talks.

Another highlight was seeing Safe Space and Insulate on the big screen - it was lots of fun helping @mattt_eyre_films and Mark Parham to get their respective films over the line.

Congrats to Matt who picked up the Rising Star award and @the_hedgehogs_dilemma who received the inaugural @breakthroughfilmfund.

It was also lovely to catch up with old pals and make some new ones!

Next episode of The Read coming up 👀

Bridgerton’s Luke Thompson gives a stunning performance reading of Oscar Wilde’s only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray.

This was such an enjoyable episode to work on, making subtle (and not-so-subtle) use of gothic and horror motifs in the sound design.

Airs this Sunday March 22nd at 10pm, on BBC Four and @bbciplayer.

Fish & Chips, a short film directed by Macadie Amoroso, will have its world premiere at BFI Flare festival in London later this month.

It was a joy being involved with this project for the second time. I say second, because I first worked on it around five years ago when it was adapted into a play by @transitionstagecompany_.

So it was quite a coincidence for the film version to come my way! Big thanks to Dave Jones for putting Macadie and I in touch.

Screens on Saturday March 28th at 3.25pm, NFT1 in BFI Southbank alongside some other wonderful shorts. I’ll be heading down, can’t wait 🤩
