Happy May the Fourth, friends! 💫 This Star Wars Day, @MESS_ltd co-founder Byron Scullin is here to show you around the ARP 2600 – the synthesiser that sound designer Ben Burtt used to create the voice of R2D2.

🌟 bonus fun fact, Ben Burtt also created the voice of Wall-E 🤖

If you’re interested in checking out more of MESS’s (Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio) collection of rare and vintage electronic instruments, they run tours and workshops – and you can also join as a MESS member to have ongoing access to their amazing collection 🙌🏼

Dinner with a view? 👀🔥

@taxikitchenmelbourne is a modern Australian restaurant with strong Asian influence, located on Level 1 of @transport_hotel in @fed.square.

The space is stunning. Almost 360-degree views across the Yarra River, Flinders Street Station and the CBD skyline. ✨

Owner and Chef Tony Twitchett (@chef_twitch) leads the kitchen with a menu that leans into bold flavours, local produce and unexpected pairings - that actually work. You can go a la carte, but we did the Taxi Showstopper shared set menu ($90/$110pp), which is designed to give you a bit of everything. There’s also a wine pairing option.

⭐️ Kinilaw Filipino ceviche, green mango & coconut - super fresh and slightly spicy
⭐️ Char siu pork skewer, mustard, daikon - charred, flavourful, slightly on the drier side but still loved it
⭐️ Vadouvan rice crackers, green nam jim - so unique, light and crunchy
✔️ Humpty Doo barramundi, tiger prawn, kimchi dressing - crispy skin, nicely cooked. The fish itself lacked flavour but when paired with the accompaniaments it was great.
✔️ Seared scallop, vermicelli noodle, XO sauce
✔️ Szechuan spiced duck, watercress, five spice caramel - great flavour and spice, that caramel was a standout! Skin wasnt completely crispy and the leg was dry.
⭐️ Wombok coleslaw, nashi pear
✔️ Viet-misu, milk jam, espresso jelly, mascarpone

We have always had a lovely time here! If you’re heading in, you can also go upstairs after to Transit Bar for a drink, or keep it casual downstairs in the public bar with live sports and music. Perfect for pre-theatre or a show, we walked over to the Arts Centre right after.

If you’re around for lunch they also have a $55pp Feed Me Lunch which is really good value - 3 smaller plates plus a larger dish to share.

Have you visited? Let us know your thoughts!👇🏽
