Garden State Equality
New Jersey's largest #LGBTQ advocacy and education organization. 150,000+ members strong.

A message from our acting Executive Director, Brielle Winslow-Majette, originally published in @outinjerseymag:
As the recently appointed acting Executive Director of Garden State Equality, New Jersey’s largest LGBTQ+ rights organization, I know that we find ourselves in a place of challenge and humility. I also know that trust in leadership is an issue that is not only top of mind, but an urgent priority in this very challenging time for our community.
Garden State Equality is, right now, an organization in the midst of a difficult transition, following a personal crisis made public that has impacted our reputation and standing. There is no getting around this, but we must get through it not only for the sake of my organization, but for the communities we serve.
Every organization has history and Garden State Equality is no exception. We do not ask you to forget it. We ask only that you believe it does not have to be our future.
To offer a metaphor, I ask you to think of the family member you dread seeing at the holidays. The aunt who asks about the partner you never had, or the one who gets your pronouns wrong, time and time again. We all have a family member who simply refuses to learn, but we are NOT that family member. While Garden State Equality has caused harm, we have also done much good, sometimes in the same breath, and sometimes with the same hands. Yet, we hold both truths. And we know that for our communities to be successful, there must be repair.

Our team has been busy with a *capital* B recently!
Yesterday, our team met with the representatives from the NJ Office of the Attorney General, Division on Civil Rights, and Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness to discuss how they can better serve and protect our communities.
And last month, our interim Executive Director Brielle attended the Human Rights Campaign's Equality in Action Weekend in Washington, DC, where she met up with our friends at the Partners for Health Foundation and many others.

Our Acting Executive Director @winslow_majette is always dressed to impress—but that makes it hard for her to decide what to wear to our largest annual fundraiser! Let us know which outfit you think Brielle should wear to Equality Ball 2026 on June 5 at the Asbury Lanes! (Bonus points if you tell us about the outfit you're planning to wear.)
If you haven't snagged a ticket yet, make sure to include the word "BALL" in your comment and we'll send you info on how to buy one!

While some towns choose to wash away their displays of Pride, Asbury Park gave theirs a fresh coat of paint today. We swung by to help and show our gratitude for municipalities that celebrate inclusion proudly for all to see.
