Project #2-3-4: Beautify side garage door 🌟
This is a three-parter:
✅ 1) Attached pot hangers for an instant herb garden

2) I already took off the old rotting trim and will be adding on new trim next weekend

3) Will be painting a design on the door itself for a little something *extra*

Originally wanted to have a yr round herb garden in my kitchen, but it’s not bright enough. So this is my second attempt. Important to have drainage in the bottom of the pot. Since they are vertically stacked any overflow will water the plant below it. The squirrels run strong in this yard and will def be trying to dig up my new buddies. I watered the plants, making the soil nice and wet after planting and adding garlic powder (will stick to the wet soil) to ward off any critters. Important to use garlic powder (not salt, that can kill the plant). I’ve used red pepper before too, doesn’t hurt the plants and keeps everything away from it. Then I had to add a label to each pot, so I don’t forget what they are!? I used a paint pen directly on the pot, since a chalk pen will wash off in the rain. The order of pots will help deter as well…putting the most fragrant (mint and rosemary) on top and bottom, and sandwiching the more delicate ones (dill, basil and cilantro) in the middle. I like how they look from the side too 🌱🪴🍃

Not on the list, but I finally got to clean out this side garden of hostas, ferns and one peonie. I had to replant 4 of the ostrich ferns (because they move around and take over) and re-mulched and watered

Believe it or not, these will be 4x this size soon. These are older plants and easily grow into this whole area by end of summer, when the hostas bloom 🌱

In the spirit of home love and renovation…follow along with me as I do my “26 things I need to finish / work on before winter project” or Phase 1.

I do like to stay on task, so of course, I had to make a list?! 🤗👏 I am prioritizing these things this year, which may bleed into next year if I run out of time. It’s a process, the long way, slow progress kind of a project. Any little thing counts! And this weekend I have a massive head cold, but feeling well enough to get started.

I like a *little bit* of accountability, but I don’t like having people tell me what to do (ha!) so I thought if I put this out there, it would be enough to keep me on track. And hopefully entertain you as you are scolling by. I see you, drive by truckers 💛🖤🤎🤍

✅ #1: Add a hook, to pull these lights up off my kitchen windows, so I can see my backyard better. Also, these lights have been one of the things making my life happier, so glad I added them and will show u my full patio set up once I have it up and ready again.

To you, it might look like a random dining room and kitchen. But, taking a moment to realize how far I’ve come. Ten years of dreaming that came to reality with a lot of hard work, patience and planning. So incredibly grateful to get the opportunity to breathe new life into this 150 year old little gem ✨
What I see:
-2 replaced windows
-New pantry cupboard storage where there was nothing before
-New light and new electrical line that had to be run to make it work, when the original went out
-New chairs
-My first and second time tiling walls, ever
-An old hutch removed = an actual anchored spot for my dining room table and cookbooks for menu planning
-Painted black floors in my kitchen (huge gamble that ended up working great)
-My breakfast nook that looks out to the church steeple, where I eat breakfast everyday
-New countertops + new oven
-Finally, having a vent hood for cooking smells!?
-Vintage shelf brackets to celebrate the history of this old house
-Flowers from two of my fav people
