When teacher, emcee and larger-than-life presence Rowdy passed away last year, well over a hundred people descended upon CCB Plaza in Durham for a special edition of the 919 Cypher that he’d been a part of leading and sustaining for years. Among the many congregants was a similarly community-minded creative named Jada Bowdrie, aka @aroundjbow. Fewer than 12 months later, the Triangle arts and hip-hop community lost her as well. In the wake of her passing, singer/songwriter @itsmel___ wrote a brief but powerful note about who she was, and why for so many independent artists in the area, her impact will never be forgotten.
