I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again; borrowing a bass that is played and cared for makes a huge difference!

This #BassDuJour came courtesy of @joshuacavanaghbrierley and is a flat-back French bass from 1850 complete with a C-extension, which I definitely found a way to use on the gig!

A gorgeous instrument strung with Spicores on the E & A, @pirastroofficial Evah Pirazzi’s on the D & G, complete with a David Gage Realist that I ran into my Felix 2 (surprise surprise) into a @markbassamps combo with an extension cab.

I want to take a moment to not only thank Joshua for loaning me his wonderful instrument, but also to the staff @nqjazz and @theyard_mcr for the incredible hospitality the showed us while we were there.

And the #Manchester audience were such an amazing crowd to play for! I really enjoyed talking with them after two SOLD OUT sets!

Can’t wait to come back!

Thanks for the strings and things @daddarioorchestral looking forward to getting these medium gauge helicore hybrids on this bass. I only recently used the lights on another bass for a recording session for something that’s coming out in the summer on @efpi_records and they blew me away. Clarity, projection and great with the bow. Genuinely really versatile! - disclaimer: Birds Eye view in the video but the bird was dying 🦅

At the end of the relaxed day the thing I love the most is playing original music. It’s probably the thing that means the most to me.@janileighcohen’s album has been a long time coming, it’s obviously fantastic because she’s an incredibly gifted songwriter. She epitomises what it means to be true to yourself as an artist. For me it’s such a richer experience when an artist invites you into their world rather than trying to hack into yours - increasingly rare but unmistakable and beyond the gauge of popularity! That being said do give it a right good listen 👂 ………… overjoyed to be le involved alongside my old reliable @danwiebedrums who is perfect for these sessions - full to the brim with references and ideas for the both of us. Also kudos to @richardspillermusic for doing an incredible job producing this album! Feels like you and Jani were meant to meet I think! 🧡

Here's a clip of some improvising over Spin Loose. Filmed and recorded by the amazing @iola_music at @sett174 and featuring the @keybirdinstruments portable acoustic piano.
