As I walked through the Petersen Museum, biggest car exhibit in history, I felt something deep and emotional… Standing among the machines, the memories, the weight of what we built together. It was there, surrounded by all of it, that a kind of clarity finally came…
You will soon see Riddick. Theo. Xander. The Arbor King, which is literally Disney’s most enigmatic character…
But the Fast finale-
that… that, will be cathartic.

With the finale approaching, every day is spent reflecting. Not out of sentimentality, but out of responsibility.
 
So let me tell you about Cuba.
 
When I read the first Fast script, 26 years ago, Dom was the owner of a Cuban bodega. So I traveled there to find him. No budget. No crew. Just me trying to understand the spirit of a character’s origin.
 
A woman recognized me from a bootlegged VHS of Pitch Black and helped me settle a hotel bill the credit cards couldn’t cover.
 
Standing there, feeling that warmth, I made a quiet promise.
 
Someday I would bring the biggest movie in Hollywood to that island.
 
Years later I directed Los Bandoleros… for free. Out of eight directors who worked on this franchise, only me. My father always said never do anything for free… haha.
 
But the truth is, I would have paid them.
 
Because they were giving me something no check could buy. The rhythm of the Caribbean. Don Omar and Tego Calderón,cultural mavericks who deserved to be on the biggest screen. Dom and Han’s backstory. And the chance to celebrate on film what Dom and Letty truly represented.
 
The longest running love story in cinema.
 
That short film opened a door that led all the way back to beautiful Cuba. And Cuba is where this picture was taken.
 
Charlize and I, about to film together for the first time. Decades in the making. We were supposed to share a screen in the 90s, a film I walked away from when I was told my dignity would cost me everything. A story for another time.
 
After Furious 7, I had a promise to keep to my brother. Ten films. The 8th chapter needed a villain who could ask the most dangerous question this family had ever faced.
 
What happens when Dom turns his back on family?
 
Cipher was the answer. And Charlize was always meant to play her.
