Will Mower

There’s a couple of spaces left for this Saturday’s London-based workshop with me and @theohersey! If you fancy spending a day playing with modular systems and printmaking in Theo’s amazing studio The Typography Workshop then come along!
We’ll be using the Shifting Structures letterpress system I designed (kindly lent by @letterpress.workshop) to create some two-colour prints and I’ll also be bringing along some BlockFace kits to try out as well.
If you’re interested, you can find out more with the link in my bio or by visiting Theo’s website shop 🙏🎨👌
Yesterday was my last day of lecturing at @canterburyccuni where I have been covering part-time maternity leave on the @cccugraphicdesign course since September.
It’s the best job I’ve had and I hope I can find more opportunities to teach in the future. A huge thanks to everyone in the graphic design department for all their support - it’s been fantastic working with such an amazing team and group of students.
This is a piece of music I made called Trill
It’s just under 3 minutes - fight the urge to scroll and take a listen 🐣✌️(it sounds best in headphones!)
WE ARE ALL BODIES OF WATER
This is a bird bath I made based on one of the sand sculptures I was experimenting with last summer. Need to scale it up next 🕊️

Some bits in the studio…
I’m not able to get in much at the moment as I’m staying down in Kent whilst we wait to move flat. I’ve also just started part-time lecturing at Christchurch Canterbury Uni so focusing some time on that but thought I’d pop up today and have a bit of a tidy up of the space (as it’s mainly being used as storage currently!)

NOWHERE TO BE
20/09/25 - Westbeach, Whitstable
Made this quickly this morning on one of my favourite bits of beach. I did a walking trip a few years ago along the coast from Whitstable to Brighton which is what led to this project. I made a photo zine about the walk and called it Nowhere To Be.
WE ARE ALL BODIES OF WATER
- Margate 25/8/25
I got up very early yesterday to get a train down to Margate at low tide. I was interested in doing something linked to the Tidal pool on Margate beach and then spent a few hours there so I could capture the moment the tide came in.
Take a look at the previous post to see more of the process and idea behind the project ❤️

Hello! I’ve been a bit quiet on here recently as we’re moving flat at the moment but I wanted to share the start of this new project I’ve been working on with the help of the brilliant @holmesylogic!
I had an idea last year for some sand moulds based on the BlockFace Standard typeface. I thought it would be interesting to take them with me on walking trips along the coast so I can create typographic messages as I go.
I’ve been thinking about different ways of making work recently, particularly focusing on the process of making and have been really drawn to the transient nature of environmental art.
I met Matt Holmes at @print_in_action festival in Plymouth earlier this year and we chatted about the idea amongst other print/design-y things over a pint - he very kindly offered to work on the project with me and so i pinged him over the typeface and he designed these brilliant 3d printed moulds!
I’m planning to do a lot more of this over the coming months and am writing up a newsletter at the moment with more stuff about the project as well as some updates about my shop etc. so if you’d like to find out more you can sign up through the link in bio.
Massive thanks to Matt Holmes and will be sharing more photos as these project develops 🌊❤️💌

Today on the POP Blog we check out @will.mower’s latest project that takes the form of generative art, examining the fixed nature of flag iconography and the symbolic associations we attach to their designs. Using a basic set of design rules governing colour, shape, and layout, the code generates flags at random. Each flag is then arbitrarily assigned to a “collective identity” and paired with a randomly selected description drawn from a curated list. By decoupling design from meaning, the project invites reflection on how we construct relationships between symbols and ideas. Head to peopleofprint.com or link in bio.

A better picture of this VESSEL piece and the mould it was made in. The piece is now crazing like crazy (the glaze is cracking) and I need to recast it at some point to make it easy to slipcast and make some more. I’ve also got plans for a simpler design inspired by this one that I’ll likely sell at some point.
