As white owners of Japanese inspired restaurants, we have been learning and acutely listening over the past few weeks. We are engaged actively in conversations with staff, family and colleagues.

What has been striking is that in all the meetings outside of our own company that we've been a part of these past few weeks, the violence against the AAPI community has not been at the top of every agenda.  In order for meaningful change to happen, we all need to be amplifying the message that hateful acts and racism against the AAPI community are NOT acceptable. It sounds too simple, but the first step is TALKING about it and shining a bright light on it. The next step is action.

TODAY, if you haven't already, please check in with your AAPI staff, co-workers, friends and family and see how they are doing. Acknowledge their anger and fear and outrage, and let them know that you know it's happening to and around them.

Well? Happy 4th Anniversary @covina_nyc today. Never thought we’d be wishing a happy anniversary to a restaurant temporarily shutdown for a bit but happy messages must prevail. And sending out a huge thank you to all of our amazing staff and kindest of guests for all of the support over the past years and especially as we come through this together as a community. A toast will be in order when we re-open those doors. Be strong and safe in the meantime. Burgers make us happy. Hopefully this makes you a little happy too today.

We are sincerely looking forward to watching our inspirational friend@chefaz tackle incredibly important issues in his new show #whatseatingamerica Premieres tonight on @msnbc at 9EST/8CST.The world belongs to the people who show up and he always shows up.

So thankful for family & friends & our work family & everyone who has broken bread (and sushi) at our tables over the years #gratitude
