"I have Zinzi and Ryan, and there's no two guts I trust more," Proximity Media co-founder Sev Ohanian says. "I bring the data, they bring the guts."
The trio of Ohanian, Ryan Coogler, and Zinzi Coogler founded @proximitymedia in 2018. The production company is home to the box office shattering and Academy Award winning vampire film "Sinners"—which broke the record for the most Oscar nominations in history earlier this month.
In this episode of The Truth About Leadership, the founders discuss navigating impostor syndrome, balancing their personal and professional relationships, and what they learned from their first jobs.

Over the past two and a half decades, three women’s professional hockey leagues had launched and collapsed, victims of fragmented ownership, insufficient funding, and infrastructure that couldn’t support elite athletes trying to build full-time careers.
So future hockey hall of famer Hilary Knight was skeptical when she joined a players’ committee to negotiate terms for yet another new league.
But the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) shattered the mold. It launched in January 2024, and just months later, set a pro women’s hockey attendance record for a single game. It expanded from six to eight teams for its second season, and attendance jumped 52.5% season over season.
But none of this would have happened had the league not taken critical steps before the first puck ever dropped.

First you choose a partner, then you choose a genome?
The rapidly growing world of embryo genetic screening is being bolstered by IVF startups like Orchid and Nucleus, which offer parents the ability to select embryos based on genome sequencing.
Proponents say this kind of genetic testing helps optimize health outcomes and prevent hereditary disease. Though, some scientists have called polygenic embryo screening "modern snake oil."
On this episode of FC Explains, Fast Company Senior Writer Ainsley Harris discusses why many are calling for an urgent, society-wide conversation about so-called “designer babies.”

Pinterest’s newest ad starts with two young women doomscrolling in the dark. It’s a familiar nightly ritual for millions. As one of them slumps on the bed in a Reels-induced semicoma, the other gets an idea and opens... you guessed it, Pinterest.
Suddenly, an energetic dance track fills the room, and the two are inspired to get their best fits together for a night out. It ends with the tagline, “The best thing you can find online is a reason to go offline.”
When the business model for every other social platform revolves around your attention and time spent as their primary product for brand advertising dollars, this may feel like a counterintuitive strategy.
The real motivation is to pitch time on Pinterest as quality over quantity, not just to users but also brand partners. The app’s users are looking for inspiration, and brands have an opportunity to supply it.

The next time you take a call on your iPhone, the other person could be recording every word you say, and you may not even realize it.
Ever since iOS 18.1, Apple has offered a call recording feature on its smartphones. The feature has legitimate uses, and because of its embedded audio notifications, Apple would presumably argue that it meets both the “single party” and “all party” consent requirements in various states.
As the description suggests, the call recording feature enables someone to record a phone call directly from the Phone app, rather than using a third-party solution or relying on other methods, such as putting the call on speakerphone and then recording it with a recording app on another device.
But iOS 18.1 did not offer the person being recorded any control over the recording, nor did it provide a reasonable notification that the recording was in progress. This has not changed, even with the recent release of iOS 26.4.

A few weeks ago, a Rhode billboard appeared on the road along the way to Coachella. It didn’t look like Rhode’s typical visual brand. It signaled something new.
The billboard was part of a larger product launch teed up on social the week before: “spotwear” pimple patches and banana peel eye patches in partnership with Rhode founder Hailey Bieber’s husband, Justin Bieber, who performed at the festival.
The products weren’t yet available, but they would be at the brand’s festival activation, Rhode World. If you didn’t have one of the multi-tiered wristbands that got you into Rhode’s house party, you could still feel you were part of it when the products launched the following week.
No matter where you are, all roads lead to the brand. That consistent, discerning attention to 360 degrees of detail is also what’s made the brand a success.
Head to the link in bio to read how @haileybieber made @rhode into the global institution it is.

It’s not often that a serious medical condition gets renamed, but that’s the case now for a condition that impacts one in eight women.
Polycystic ovary syndrome, a hormonal disorder long known as PCOS, will now be called PMOS—short for polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome. The new name aims to provide a clearer picture of the syndrome, which should help patients get diagnosed more quickly and accurately.
A group of specialists who worked to rename the condition criticized its long-standing name as inaccurate, explaining that misunderstandings about its features led to delayed diagnosis, inadequate care, and stifled research.
The hormonal disorder’s new name puts the focus on “endocrine, metabolic, and ovarian dysfunction”—three major areas of symptoms for sufferers.

For years, companies have been told to prepare for the future by chasing youth, digital fluency, and technical skills. At the same time, they have spent years overlooking one of the most strategic talent pools already available to them: women over 50.
As writer and speaker @laetitiavitaud explains on the Most Innovative Companies podcast, this blind spot now looks increasingly dangerous.
"We need people who are agile in times of crisis. People who can bring judgment in a world of uncertainty," Vitaud says. "That's something women and women over 50, in particular, are really good at."

Everybody knows this coworker—the one who spirals about cost-cutting layoffs when snacks vanish from the break room. The one who thinks they’re getting fired because their boss hasn’t been using emojis with them lately.
The one who’s the office Chicken Little: anxious, somewhat frantic, often misguided... and who can’t stop talking to others about whatever it is they’re anxious about.
But for the office Chicken Little, it’s not the dismal mass termination numbers alone that are scary: It’s the unknown future that’s sending them into sustained panic mode.
“Uncertainty is a huge trigger to the stress response” in the body, says physician Esther Sternberg, who’s long studied the effects of stress on humans.

This week, Spotify released some never-before-seen data to users—and it’s coming in a format that looks strikingly familiar.
To celebrate its 20-year anniversary, Spotify launched Your Party of the Year(s), an in-app experience designed to hit users with a blast of nostalgia by walking them through highlights of their own user journey with the app, including their first song ever streamed.
The format is a click-through, interactive infographic, and it looks a whole lot like Spotify Wrapped.
